Dr. Anthony Fauci clarified comments he’d made a day earlier about the administration’s handling of the global coronavirus pandemic, a striking show of reconciliation following a day of questions about his future on the White House task force.
Fauci said he was responding to a “hypothetical question” during an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union” program when he said more could have been done to save American lives. He claimed his response “was taken as a way that maybe somehow something was at fault here” and said his remark about “pushback” inside the administration to some of his recommendations was a poor choice of words. read more

Production of COVID-19 antibody test kits are ramping up – there are over 70 companies producing them. B.C. has recorded 11 COVID-19 deaths since Saturday, says B.C.’s provincial health officer.

A visibly emotional Dr. Bonnie Henry said Monday the majority of those new deaths were linked to outbreaks in seniors’ care homes.

The virus has now killed 69 British Columbians — more than half of them in seniors’ facilities.

British Columbia confirmed 45 new cases Monday, bringing the provincial total to 1,490 lab-confirmed cases of the virus — about two thirds of whom have fully recovered.

More than 250 of B.C.’s COVID-19 cases are linked to outbreaks in 20 Metro Vancouver seniors’ homes. read more

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo provided an update Monday regarding the continued efforts his state is making to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Cuomo said that although the number of daily deaths caused by the virus in the state is decreasing, it is flattening at a “horrific level.” He added that having over 650 deaths occur during the Easter holiday was “especially tragic,” as the death toll surpassed 10,000 in New York State on Monday.

Cuomo also stated that they will “listen to the experts and follow the data” before choosing to reopen the state amid the pandemic, and outlined a potential objective for reopening, which included re-calibrating essential workers and applying more testing. read more

Canadian health and government officials are expected to provide an update on the latest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country and the federal government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Politicians returned to Ottawa over the weekend to debate the Liberal government’s emergency COVID-19 legislation which would allow companies to access a 75 percent wage subsidy for each employee.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau said on Saturday that the time frame for the payout of the wage subsidy for businesses has been moved up with the hope of occurring within two to five weeks, but are hoping to have the payout be closer to the shorter end of the time. read more
