Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has said the UK “must keep going” with coronavirus lockdown measures and confirmed an increase of 881 deaths, taking the overall total to 7,978.

Speaking to reporters outside Rideau Cottage in Ottawa on Thursday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said even under the best-case projections released earlier in the day by his government, it’s likely the “first wave” of COVID-19 peak infection will likely not end until the summer.
“Normality, as it was before, will not come back full-on until we get a vaccine for this… That will be a very long way off,” the prime minister said.
Trudeau said well after the initial peak of COVID-19 infection rates has passed in Canada, Canadians should expect “wavelets” of COVID-19 infections to keep popping back up until a reliable vaccination is developed.

The UK has recorded its highest daily number of deaths from coronavirus. 938 more people died in hospital with the virus in the last 24 hours, close to the worst levels seen in Italy and Spain. The Prime Minister Boris Johnson was said to be “improving” as he prepared to spend a third night in intensive care. Downing Street said he was “sitting up in bed and engaging positively” with staff at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. Meanwhile scientists have questioned whether the government can meet its target of 100,000 coronavirus tests a day by the end of April. New York state recorded 731 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, marking the biggest one-day jump in the outbreak. The state’s death toll since the beginning of the outbreak is now 5,489, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
The governor said the number of deaths include those patients that were placed on ventilators “at the peak” of hospitalizations.
“That’s why you’re seeing the number of deaths increase because these are people who came in at the peak. They were not successfully treated. They’re on a ventilator. The longer you’re on a ventilator, the less likely you come off the ventilator.”

The largest single economic bail-out package in Australia’s history has passed Federal Parliament overnight, with the $130 billion JobKeeper scheme becoming law.
In the United States, New York has again recorded its deadliest day since the coronavirus outbreak with 779 deaths, taking the state’s total to 6,268.
The United Kingdom has had it’s worst day so far with its death toll rising to 938 in 24 hours, reaching a total of 7,097 in total.

The director-general of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, delivered a powerful warning to world leaders to not politicize the response to COVID-19, saying doing so will lead to more deaths.
“If we want to win, please quarantine politicizing COVID-19,” Tedros said.
Tedros made the stern comments at a WHO press briefing Wednesday in response to a question about recent criticisms made by U.S. President Donald Trump, defending the organization about what they’ve done since the first known case was brought to their attention 100 days ago.
