U.S. President Donald Trump delivered a speech after his tour of Puritan Medical Products in Guilford, Maine on Friday.

It was Trump’s latest stop of his tour of companies producing medical equipment amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The president boasted about a May jobs report that added over two and a half million new jobs in the month of May. He added that was the largest single monthly increase in U.S. history.

Trump also said the United States has completed more than 19 million coronavirus tests and that it’s more than every other country in the world combined, according to Trump. read more

Canadian Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau chaired virtual round table with the Head of Research and Capacity Development at the UN-Habitat Dr. Eduardo Lopez Moreno on Friday to discuss the impact on COVID-19 on urban economies.

Many Canadian Mayors, Councillors and Chairs joined the meeting and spoke about their regions’ progress to recover local and regional economies amid the pandemic.

Minister Morneau highlighted some of the Canadian government’s initiatives to help people during the pandemic including the Canada Emergency Response Benefit and stressed on that the government’s work would be “imperfect by definition, because we won’t be able to solve everything for everyone.” read more

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government is offering $14 billion to the provincial and territorial governments for measures to keep COVID-19 at bay.

Trudeau says Canadians have sacrificed too much to allow a mishandled resumption of economic activity to eliminate the progress against the disease.

He says everyone in Canada needs the same tools but local situations vary and the provincial and territorial governments “have a very clear idea” of what is needed.

Trudeau also said recent reports of police violence against Indigenous people are “disturbing” and the cases need to be “investigated properly.” read more

Premier Doug Ford has urged Ontarians to “go get tested” after expanding the criteria to include a wide range of people, with or without symptoms.

The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week. read more

World leaders and representatives from over 50 countries virtually joined the Global Vaccine Summit hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday to raise funds for GAVI (The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations), a public-private global health partnership.

The Global Vaccine Summit was able to raise 8.8 billion dollars for routine vaccinations in some of the world’s poorest countries.

Boris Johnson called for donations of at least $7.4 billion for GAVI to immunize further 300 million children in the world’s poorest countries by 2025 against diseases such as polio, diphtheria and measles. read more

Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott, Children, Community and Social Services Minister Todd Smith, and Jamil Jivani, Ontario’s advocate for community opportunities, held a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday.

On Thursday, Ford said that while the number of cases in Ontario had remained at approximately the same level, he said it still appeared positive. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the government has released new modelling data on the coronavirus pandemic. The data shows that Canada is making progress in combating the spread of the virus, Trudeau said.

Health Canada’s latest short-term modelling shows that COVID-19 could cause 7,700 to 9,400 deaths by June 15. The number of cases could rise to between 97,990 and 107,454.

More than 93,000 Canadians have been diagnosed with COVID-19 as of Thursday. More than 7,500 Canadians have succumbed to the illness. read more

Manitoba recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday as the number of active cases in the province has fallen to below 10, according to health officials.

The new reported case brings the total number in Manitoba to 298.

Chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin said Wednesday that four of the province’s active cases are linked to a cluster related to temporary foreign workers in the Southern Health region of the province.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the province remains at seven. read more

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced on Wednesday that his government is investing a $150 million in funding to improve broadband and cellular connectivity in Ontario.

Ford said this money will go directly to expanding broadband and cellular access to more families and businesses in rural Ontario.

Ford added that his government is partnering with municipalities, Indigenous communities and private sectors to deliver those critical projects.

However, the premier called on the federal government for support and to “deliver on its commitment” to broadband accessibility, because “we can’t do it alone.” read more

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw gave an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province Monday and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

The province’s top doctor said that 34 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Alberta in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 400. She said 6,501 people have now recovered from the virus.

As of Monday, there were 53 people in hospital with COVID-19, six of whom were in intensive care units. Hinshaw said no new deaths have been reported. read more

Ontario reported 326 new cases of novel coronavirus Sunday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 27,859.

Nineteen new deaths were also announced, bringing the total fatalities attributed to the virus in the province to 2,266.

Ford said on Friday that they are looking at the idea of a regional approach to reopenings, in conjunction with the expanded testing plan announced earlier that day. Andrew Cuomo holds his daily press conference on the Covid-19 outbreak, which has infected more than 366,733 people across the state, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Cuomo announced an executive order Thursday to authorize businesses to deny entry to people who are not wearing masks or face coverings.

Manitoba health officials provided an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Friday.

Dr. Brent Roussin, the province’s chief medical health officer, reported that no new cases of coronavirus have been found in Manitoba, keeping the case numbers at 294.

Seven people have died, while 273 people have recovered.

Shared Health’s Chief Nursing Officer Lanette Siragusa said due to the pandemic, wait times in hospitals are “historically low,” and that on average, people are waiting in hospital emergency rooms for only 38 minutes. read more
