U.S. President Donald Trump delivered remarks on protecting America's seniors in the East Room on Thursday.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a proclamation declaring May to be āOlder Americans Month,ā and also announced steps that the U.S. is taking to protect seniors amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump said that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will be sending supplemental shipments of personal protective equipment (PPE) to all Medicaid and Medicare-certified nursing homes in the country. He also stated that nursing homes will have to begin reporting information about COVID-19 cases directly to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), residents and their family members, aiming for testing data to be posted online.
Earlier in the day, Trump said the United States plans to accelerate the development of a coronavirus vaccine, an effort that has been dubbed "Operation Warp Speed."
