Donald Trump and his coronavirus taskforce have unveiled a set of federal guidelines for reopening the economy, which comprise three phases but ultimately defer to governors on when and how to return their states to normal. ‘A prolonged lockdown combined with a forced economic depression would inflict an immense and wide-ranging toll on public health,’ he said. In Trump’s plan, the responsibility for opening businesses across the country lies with state, not federal, authorities. The White House plans to release guidelines Thursday to inform states on how to relax coronavirus restrictions and reopen businesses.
President Trump announced the plans during a news conference Wednesday, citing data indicating that the United States has passed the peak of COVID-19 cases nationwide.
The decision on what individual states do, however, will be with the governors across the country.
“The battle continues but the data suggests that nationwide we have passed the peak on new cases,” Trump said at a news conference in the White House Rose Garden.

Displeased with pro-forma sessions, which he called a “scam,” U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to “adjourn” both the House and the Senate in order to fill vacancies which he said had stood empty for years but are now needed “more so than ever before because of the virus.”
Trump later said he did not want to use the constitutional power that would allow him to adjourn congress, and declined to say by what date he planned to do so, saying only that “they’ve been warned.”

He accused the WHO of a cover-up saying they were too slow in their initial response to the outbreak of the pandemic. The WHO declared a global health emergency on 30 January, while President Trump continued to downplay coronavirus comparing it to flu.

US President Donald Trump has instructed his administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization. Trump says the WHO failed in its early response to the coronavirus. The US president, who has himself come under fire for his handling of the pandemic, said the WHO should have done a better job of investigating initial reports in China. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres responded by saying that now was not the time to end support for the WHO. He said its work was “absolutely critical” to the global effort to combat COVID-19.
