US President Donald Trump has backed away from the idea of imposing a quarantine in the New York state area, instead directing a “strong travel advisory” to limit the spread of the new coronavirus.
The US Centers for Disease Control has warned residents of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut against non-essential travel for 14 days.
The area is a coronavirus hotspot, with 52,000 cases in New York alone.

United States President Donald Trump on Friday signed a $2.2 trillion economic rescue bill to help lift the economy and address the coronavirus pandemic.
His signature came after the Democratic-led House of Representatives approved the sweeping package by a voice vote earlier in the day, despite a procedural challenge from Republican Representative Thomas Massie, who wanted a formal recorded vote.
The bill had passed the Republican-led Senate on Wednesday with overwhelming bipartisan support in a 96-0 vote.

On Friday, U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law the CARES Act, a massive $2 trillion USD bailout intended to mitigate the economic impacts of COVID-19 on the United States economy.

The legislation will ship payments of up to $1,200 to millions of Americans, bolster unemployment benefits, offer loans, grants and tax breaks to businesses large and small and flush billions more to states, local governments and the nation’s all but overwhelmed health care system.
The House approved the sweeping measure by a voice vote, as strong majorities of both parties lined up behind the most colossal economic relief bill in the nation’s history. read more

President Donald Trump said Friday that White House trade adviser Peter Navarro would become the national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government.

Trump made the announcement at an afternoon press conference at the White House, saying he gave Navarro the new authorities when he signed an executive order earlier that day.

“My order establishes that Peter will serve as national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government,” Trump told reporters. read more
