New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo provided an update on the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday morning as the state continues to see more cases reported.

Cuomo said that the outbreak curve in the state is “continuing to flatten” according to the latest infection rate data, and that it appears to have begun to “plateau”. He stated that hospitalization numbers are down despite the still-high number of infections.

Cuomo also discussed when businesses should reopen amid the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday, saying that it was both a “public health question and an economic question,” and that people cannot be asked to choose between “lives lost and dollars gained.” He said that he wants to ensure the decision is based on research, including researching the possibility of a second wave of the outbreak. read more

New York state recorded 731 new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, marking the biggest one-day jump in the outbreak. The state’s death toll since the beginning of the outbreak is now 5,489, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The governor said the number of deaths include those patients that were placed on ventilators “at the peak” of hospitalizations.

“That’s why you’re seeing the number of deaths increase because these are people who came in at the peak. They were not successfully treated. They’re on a ventilator. The longer you’re on a ventilator, the less likely you come off the ventilator.” read more

U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that the federal government had amassed 30 million hydroxychloroquine tablets, which he said would distributed “in large amounts” to U.S. states as they continue to deal with the impact of COVID-19.

The president has continued to promote the anti-malaria drug as a treatment for COVID-19 although scientists say more testing is needed to determine if it is safe and effective in the fight against the virus.

Trump also denied that he had any stake in companies producing hydroxychloroquine.

It could be up to six months before life in the UK returns to “normal”, England’s deputy chief medical officer has said.

Speaking at the government’s daily coronavirus briefing, Dr Jenny Harries added: “This is not to say we would be in complete lockdown for six months.”

But, she added, “We have to be really, really responsible and keep doing what we’re all doing.”

It comes as the number of deaths of people with coronavirus reached 1,228.

Among those to have died with the virus is Amged El-Hawrani, a 55-year-old doctor and ear, nose and throat trainer at Queen’s Hospital Burton. His death was confirmed shortly before the press briefing. An organ transplant consultant died last week. read more

I think Rihanna is beyond DISINGENUOUS when it comes to her ways in regards to African Americans.

She’s taking advantage and abusing your pain to build her wealth.

It’s truly disturbing and SICK.

I’m telling you: there’s no African American woman that can go to Barbados and open a successful business. Lies.

Stop letting these black imports POACH. She’s not even a US citizen cause she doesn’t want to pay taxes. It’s just awful.

Vanessa Bryant, Michael Jordan and Shaquille O’Neal were among the speakers in the sold-out tribute.
