HMS Duncan (seen above sailing out of the Black Sea), a Type 45 destroyer, will replace HMS Montrose in the region as Tehran threatens to retaliate against British shipping in the region after Royal Marines seized an oil tanker off Gibraltar last week (the tanker, Grace 1, is pictured inset). The Montrose has already had to confront three Iranian vessels in the region, Britain says, as Iran warned today that Britain will be ‘slapped in the face’ for ‘daring’ to capture the ship. Britain’s capture of the Grace 1 was ‘not valid’, Tehran’s foreign ministry said, adding: ‘This is a dangerous game and has consequences.’ Tensions are already spiralling in the Middle East amid exchanges of angry rhetoric between America and Iran and the breakdown of the 2015 nuclear deal.
Theresa May’s deputy spokeswoman said: ‘We are talking to the US about building on our presence in the face of recent threats to shipping in the area.’ read more

Aside from being a YouTube star and makeup mogul, Jeffree Star is also widely known for having a giant collection of designer fashion and luxury handbags. However, Star says he lost a valuable piece of his collection over the weekend. On Monday, Star said on Twitter that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines lost “seven pieces of luggage” belonging to him and his team. According to the YouTuber, his suitcases contained makeup purchased in UK drugstores, which he planned on reviewing in a new video, as well as a rare Birkin handbag worth $60,000. “I haven’t told you guys this yet, but when Nate and I flew home Saturday night [with the Jeffree Star Cosmetics] team, KLM Airlines lost all seven pieces of our luggage,” Star wrote on Twitter. “They promised it back Sunday, still nothing.” “The UK drugstore makeup that I bought was in one of the bags, so I can’t film my new video today,” Star said on Monday. “Praying the bags make it back to us all.” “I HAVE A CONFESSION: I NEVER pack anything really valuable in my checked bags, but I did this time,” Star continued. “A $60,000 rare Birkin is in one of my bags. KLM give it back please or we gonna have a problem.” Star also discussed the missing luggage on his Instagram story Monday. In his video, Star said he and his team were “flying back from Scotland” and “had a connection in Amsterdam” when their bags disappeared. “We landed in LAX 11 hours later, and guess what you guys?” Star said on Instagram. “Me, Zach, my assistant, one of my security guards, and Nate, all of our bags weren’t there — all gone, all lost.” According to Star, he was promised by the airline that his bags would be returned on Sunday and Monday, but said he did not receive them. Star seemed to regret packing the handbag, and said he wants to receive “the drugstore makeup back more.” “And trust me, I’m aware of how stupid I am for packing [the bag] in my suitcase, but I honestly want the drugstore makeup back more so I can film hahaha,” Star wrote on Twitter alongside the hashtag “PrayForTheBirkin.” The YouTuber reiterated his message later in an Instagram story, and said he’s “just laughing at this point” because he “can live with it” if the bag “never shows up.” “I never pack really expensive things in my suitcases that go under the plane if we do commercial,” Star said. “Well this time, for the one time on the planet that I ever do this, I packed a $60,000 rare Hermes Birkin in one of my bags.” “I really want the drugstore makeup back more so I can film content for you guys,” he continued. “I know you’re probably like, ‘Girl, are you out of your f—— mind?’ I just want my toothbrush. I really would love the bag back — it’s very rare. I won it at an auction in London, and it’s now gone. Pray for the Birkin.” On Twitter, the beauty mogul shared jokes about his experience, and replied to fans who were eager to help him find his belongings. Star suggested on Twitter that he is working to buy a private jet. Star received an update read more

The ex-NYPD detective who made the first arrests in the Central Park Five case says the Netflix depiction of it is full of “lies” — putting police and prosecutors at risk.  Eric Reynolds, who busted Raymond Santana and Kevin Richardson, both 14 at the time, told the Daily Mail that Ava DuVernay’s “How They See Us” is inflammatory.  Among his complaints: It falsely depicts the defendants as innocent bystanders rather than part of a pack of more than 30 young men who were “wilding” through Central Park on April 19, 1989, when 28-year-old jogger Trisha Meili was brutally raped and beaten. And the portrayal shows them looking badly beaten when they were arrested.  “Please, someone, show me the pictures of them,” Reynolds said, disputing the authenticity of the depiction. “Show me the injuries, show me the black eyes, show me the swollen faces because every single one of them that came out of that precinct had none of that.”  Reynolds, who had his own legal issues when he left his gun in the bathroom of an East Village bar in 2014, insists there is forensic evidence showing the youths were involved in the attack on Meili, despite the confession by serial rapist Matias Reyes and DNA evidence that tied him to the crime. The Central Park Five were fully exonerated after Reyes confessed.  Prosecutor Linda Fairstein similarly criticized the Netflix series, calling it “so full of distortions and falsehoods as to be an outright fabrication.”  The assistant district attorney on the case, Elizabeth Lederer, left her post as a part-time lecturer at Columbia Law School because of backlash from the film. read more

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S rematch against Andy Ruiz will take place in the US and not the UK, according to rival promoter Frank Warren.  Just days after AJ lost all his heavyweight titles after a shock seventh-round stoppage loss to the Mexican, the rematch was signed.  AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said there are FIVE countries in the running to host the rematch.  But Warren, who will be overseeing his man Tyson Fury at the weekend when he fights Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas, believes Joshua vs Ruiz part II will happen in America.  Speaking on talkSport’s Sports Bar, the Hall of Fame promoter said: “There’s all talk about this rematch being in the UK, which I don’t think will be in the UK  “If they do get this rematch on, it’ll have to be in the States because the TV company out here, DAZN, will want it out here.  “They’ll want it at prime time. They put the money up for the last fight, so they’ll want it prime time in my opinion, and he’s gotta win it.” FIVE COUNTRIES IN RUNNING  The front-runners remain Madison Square Garden, where AJ was shocked against Ruiz – as well as Britain’s Wembley, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Principality.  Promoter Eddie Hearn told iFL TV Joshua wants to redeem himself Stateside after his shock US debut defeat to 25-1 outsider Ruiz – though the promoter prefers a UK rematch.  Hearn said: “AJ said, ‘Do you think it would be a big statement if I came back and put the wrong right at MSG?  “I said, ‘From a marketing, fairy-tale perspective – yeah, absolutely. But you have to win this fight and you’re at a much bigger advantage if this fight’s in the UK.’  “For me, the fight should be in the UK. You came to Andy Ruiz’s country to take this fight, it doesn’t make you a bad person having a rematch in the UK. Andre Iguodala knocked down a massive 3-pointer to give the Warriors a five-point lead with under 10 seconds left in the game to seal the win for the Warriors  The Toronto Raptors nearly pulled off a late fourth quarter comeback, but Andre Iguodala had other plans for his Golden State Warriors. The Raptors trailed by five points with 51 seconds remaining in the game. Fred VanVleet missed a 3-point attempt, but Danny Green was there to grab the offensive board. He got the ball in the hands of Kawhi Leonard and when Leonard missed a runner in the lane, Pascal Siakam came up with a clutch offensive rebound to keep the possession alive. The ball was kicked out to Green, who knocked down a massive 3-pointer to make it a two-point game with 26 seconds on the clock. Toronto was scrambling on the defensive end to try and come up with a steal to give themselves a chance to tie or win the game. As the clock ticked down and the Warriors moved the ball around to avoid being trapped, Stephen Curry nearly turned the ball over. Shaun Livingston corralled Curry’s pass and made a split-second decision to make the extra pass to a wide open Iguodala. Iguodala knocked down the clutch shot to close out the game. MORE: Recap from Warriors Game 2 win to even the series | Player ratings from Game 2 “The whole fourth quarter they were playing some janky defense just trying to send bodies to me everywhere and our whole roster just took advantage of it,” Curry told ESPN’s Doris Burke following the win. “Over the course of the game, that’s kind of disrespectful to leave Andre Iguodala open like that with the game on the line. He’s made big shots like that before and he got it done tonight.” Draymond Green wasn’t surprised at Iguodala’s ability to knock down the big shot either, “I think that as big as Andre’s shot was, we have come to expect on Andre to hit big shots. Since he’s been here I’ve seen him hit several game winners. I’ve seen him put the icing on the cake on several wins.” The media also asked Kawhi his thoughts on the back-breaking shot, to which Leonard had a very literal response. He was asked if the Raptors wanted to see the ball in Iguodala’s hands to attempt the shot that put the game away, to which he responded, “No, we wanted to see it in our hands. We wanted to get the steal.” The steal would have given the Raptors a chance to send the game to OT or take a 2-0 lead, but Iguodala stepped up and buried the biggest shot of the contest to crush Toronto’s Game 2 hopes. Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said his team should have fouled, but he wasn’t upset with the shot that the Warriors got. “I think if they’re going to take a shot and give you a chance there, I’m going to probably live with the one that ended up being taken. “I’m going to probably roll with that. Probably we should have fouled before that, but like I said, he misses that we call timeout, we go down with a chance to win the ball game unbelievably, somehow.” The Raptors will have two days to mu read more

Did winter just get extended? HBO president Casey Bloys told The Wrap on Monday, November 14, that the network is in talks to launch a prequel series to its Emmy-winning hit Game of Thrones, which has only two seasons remaining before it signs off for good. (Thrones season 7, which consists of seven episodes, premieres in summer 2017.)

“We’ve talked very, very kind of high-level, like, ‘Oh, that would be interesting, a prequel would be interesting, are there areas that make more sense?'” Bloys said. “But we haven’t — no one has put pen to paper yet. It’s still pretty early on.” read more
