New Brunswick health officials provided an update on Friday regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in the province as well as an announcement on relaxing measures in combating the outbreak.

Over the next several weeks and months, New Brunswick will be gradually lifting COVID-19 restrictions, while complying with public health policies and advice, announced Premier Blaine Higgs. The four-step plan to ease measures will only progress if conditions under each level are met. The province’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell said that if another spike of cases occurs, she won’t hesitate to reinstate restrictions again. read more

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw and other officials gave an update on the COVID-19 response in the province on Tuesday.

Alberta’s total number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 3,000 and the number of cases linked to two meat plants in the province continues to rise as well, according to Hinshaw.

The doctor said the province has recorded 187 new cases over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number to 3,095. She said 401 of those cases are linked Cargill’s meat plant near High River and 77 to the JBS plant near Brooks. There are now 29 outbreaks confirmed at continuing care homes in Alberta that have resulted in 367 confirmed cases of COVID-19. read more

Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams provided an update Saturday on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Williams reported that the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario had surpassed 10,000 as 485 additional cases were reported Saturday morning. Thirty-six new deaths were announced, bringing the death toll in the province to 514.

He also stated that the Greater Toronto Area has over 56 per cent of the cases within the province, and that 108 long-term care homes in Ontario had COVID-19 outbreaks. read more

New Brunswick health officials will confirm the most recent COVID-19 cases Wednesday morning and update the province’s response to the novel coronavirus pandemic.

On Tuesday, Premier Blaine Higgs and chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell both said they would be looking for a steady drop in COVID-19 cases over the next two weeks in order to determine if the province is past the peak of the pandemic. Higgs said this time period will be “critical” in determining whether additional testing is needed or whether some protective measures could be scaled back. read more

With more than 13,000 confirmed cases and a death total nearing 500 in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp plans to address the public during a media gathering on Monday.

Canadian health and government officials are expected to provide an update on the latest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country and the federal government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Politicians returned to Ottawa over the weekend to debate the Liberal government’s emergency COVID-19 legislation which would allow companies to access a 75 percent wage subsidy for each employee.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau said on Saturday that the time frame for the payout of the wage subsidy for businesses has been moved up with the hope of occurring within two to five weeks, but are hoping to have the payout be closer to the shorter end of the time. read more

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, joined by Dr. Deena Hinshaw and AHS CEO Dr. Verna Yiu, provided a provincial update on the COVID-19 situation Wednesday, including the public release of full projections of the pandemic.

Three new COVID-19 fatalities were announced on Wednesday, which brings Alberta’s death toll from the pandemic to 29.

The provincial government said that Alberta has recorded 50 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, bringing the total case number to 1,423. Of those cases, 519 people have now recovered. read more

In Ottawa, Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s chief public health officer, and Dr. Howard Njoo, deputy chief public health officer, join federal ministers to provide an update on the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak.

Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman and Jason Shaw, head of the city’s emergency operations centre, provided an update the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and also the expected spring flooding situation.

The City of Winnipeg says 41 property owners will need dikes to protect from river flooding, and another 16 remain at risk of flooding this spring.

In a release Monday afternoon the city said crews continue to monitor river levels and are working with the province to decide if additional properties will require sandbag dikes. read more

Montreal’s regional director of health Dre. Mylène Drouin provided the daily update on the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednseday.

Dr. Drouin announced a total of 2090 cases of COVID-19 in Montreal, with 132 hospitalizations and 26 cases in intensive care.

She said that public health expects more cases to be announced in the coming days as they were dealing with a backlog in the labs in the past few days.

Montreal’s mayor Valérie Plante announced earlier on Wednesday that the city’s parks could close to the public if people gather there during the novel coronavirus health crisis. read more

On Monday, Tory announced that the city would be cancelling all public events through June 30, including the Pride Parade, in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure the safety of the community, as the city nears almost 800 total cases of the novel coronavirus disease.

In addition, the mayor said the TTC will be adding additional buses on typically busier routes to help avoid crowding and ensure distance can be maintained for all essential workers who need to take public transit. read more
