New Brunswick health officials provided an update on Friday regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in the province as well as an announcement on relaxing measures in combating the outbreak.

Over the next several weeks and months, New Brunswick will be gradually lifting COVID-19 restrictions, while complying with public health policies and advice, announced Premier Blaine Higgs. The four-step plan to ease measures will only progress if conditions under each level are met. The province’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell said that if another spike of cases occurs, she won’t hesitate to reinstate restrictions again. read more

Trials for a new COVID-19 vaccine began on humans at Oxford University in the UK on Thursday.

Two volunteers took part part in the trials with one given the new vaccine and another given a ‘control’ which will not prevent the virus.

The global pandemic has sickened nearly 2,68 million people, killed more than 187,000 worldwide, crippled economies and forced restrictions on the movement of millions of people in an effort to stop the virus from spreading further and overwhelming health care systems. read more

Sky News host Chris Kenny says US President Donald Trump’s latest COVID-19 update is bizarre, very interesting and one which is certainly “worth a look”.

President Trump has suggested coronavirus patients be injected with disinfectant as a way to fight the virus.

Speaking from the White House podium, Mr Trump said “I see that disinfectant knocks it out in a minute, one minute”.

“Is there a way that we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see it gets in the lungs and does a tremendous number,” he said. read more

A 57-year-old California woman who was seemingly healthy when she died of a sudden heart attack in early February is now believed to be the first American to have died of the coronavirus. Patricia Dowd’s daughter found her dead on Feb. 6 at their home. Dowd’s death came as a shock to her family, who said she “exercised routinely, watched her diet and took no medication.” Now, she is among three new COVID-19 cases confirmed by Santa Clara County officials posthumously through tissue samples. read more

Calgary Stampede officials announced Thursday that this year’s event, which had been scheduled to start on July 3, is cancelled in light of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

This marks the first time in 100 years the event won’t be held.

The news came as Alberta’s top doctor revealed that a public health order banning gatherings of more than 15 people would remain in place throughout the summer.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said summer events and festivals across the province would have to be cancelled. She added that the mass gathering rule would be reassessed in the fall. read more
