President Trump today railed against “partisan investigations” and “witch hunts” amid the coronavirus pandemic after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) established a special House committee to examine the federal response to the pandemic.
“I want to remind everyone here in our nation’s capital, especially in Congress, that this is not the time for politics,” Trump said, reading from prepared remarks. “Endless partisan investigations have already done extraordinary damage to our country in recent years.”
The White House projected there could be 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the U.S. from the coronavirus pandemic even if current social distancing guidelines are maintained.

Chief provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix provided an update Thursday on the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Henry said there were 55 new cases of COVID-19 in the province and six people have died in the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 31.
Henry said 641 people have recovered from COVID-19 and are out of isolation.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says too many Canadians are still going on needless outings, potentially encouraging the spread of COVID-19.
He says they’re putting health workers at risk, and that threatens everyone who might need medical care.
Trudeau says none of the lost jobs, or the efforts to crank up the national systems for distributing goods, will be worth it if Canadians don’t stay home as much as possible.

More than 1,000 people died of coronavirus in the United States on Wednesday alone, raising the death toll over 5,000. A week ago the total was less than 1,300. Trump and federal health officials predicted a “very painful” period in the country’s fight against the public health emergency.
The government gave its daily update on Covid-19 as Boris Johnson urged the public stay at home after an “uptick” in the number of people using public transport in the last few days.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock took questions from journalists, with the government facing increased pressure over testing rates for the virus.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and government officials are expected to provide an update on the province’s ongoing response to COVID-19 on Thursday.
The premier will be joined by Christine Elliott, Minister of Health, and Michael Tibollo, Associate Minister of Mental Health and Addictions.
Ford announced on Wednesday that municipalities had been told they must enforce self-isolation measures as the province continues to try and contain the spread of COVID-19.

During the coronavirus pandemic, scammers have sent several emails using the domain of the World Health Organization. Some are addressed from Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the WHO, and carry attachments that can install malware on the victim’s device. Others announce a coronavirus cure that you can read all about in an attachment. They each appear to be sent from the WHO’s who.int email address.
A key member of the White House coronavirus task force, Dr. Anthony Fauci, tells TODAY that while New York is now the epicenter of the outbreak, “it’s not going to be confined to New York … this is going to get worse before it gets better, for sure.” He says that while staying at home is inconvenient, without a vaccine, it’s “all we have.”

China’s vast surveillance system has come to the fore in its attempt to monitor and control the spread of coronavirus.
According to official statistics, the number of newly confirmed cases in China has dropped dramatically – from thousands a day to nearly zero.
Meanwhile, a growing number of countries are also looking at using extensive surveillance systems, such as geolocation tracking to fight the pandemic.
So how exactly can surveillance tools help curb a pandemic and what are the potential pitfalls?
