Britain is sending a second warship to the Gulf amid increasing tensions with Iran. On Tuesday the UK increased its alert level in the area to its highest, with Iran threatening retaliation after Britain seized one of its vessels believed to have been in breach of sanctions.

Five Iranian ships unsuccessfully tried to seize a British oil tanker in the Persian Gulf Wednesday – US officials say.Armed vessels from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps tried to capture the British Heritage tanker while it was sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.Iran’s ships reportedly ordered the British vessel to divert its course and stop in Iranian waters which it was sailing nearby. More than 150 aftershocks have hit the Los Angeles region after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck on the Fourth of July.
