Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to make an announcement Thursday and will discuss the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province.

Ontario reported 292 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with the total confirmed cases at 26,483. read more

Federal ministers and health officials will hold a COVID-19 briefing to update Canadians on the latest coronavirus cases in the country and will discuss the ongoing government response to the pandemic.

As of Thursday, Canada reported a total of 87,508 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 6,765 deaths.

Queensland health authorities are trying to find out how Australia’s youngest coronavirus victim became infected in a town with no known cases.

In this update:

0:11 – A fever clinic has opened in the central Queensland town of Blackwater after the death of Nathan Turner. He was found dead on Tuesday and later tested positive to the virus. Anyone experiencing covid-19 symptoms is being encouraged to be tested.

0:24 – The Melbourne meatworks at the centre of Victoria’s biggest outbreak is returning to full operations today. Cedar Meats has been linked to more than 110 cases but there have been no new infections in the past week. read more

The new NHS coronavirus test and trace programme will launch across England from tomorrow, the Government has announced.

The programme is designed to let people know if they have been in close contact with someone who later reports positive for Covid-19 and could be a key to easing up social distancing measures.

Health and Social Care Secretary Matt Hancock said: “As we move to the next stage of our fight against coronavirus, we will be able to replace national lockdowns with individual isolation and, if necessary, local action where there are outbreaks. read more
