Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams is expected to provide an update Thursday on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discuss the public health agency’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Ontario reported 390 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the provincial total to 23,774.

The death toll has risen to 1,962 as 43 more deaths were reported.

According to health officials, 18,190 people have recovered from COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus, which is 76 per cent of cases. read more

Premier Doug Ford will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Ross Romano, Minister of Colleges and Universities, to make an announcement.

The epicentre of new cases and death tolls during this coronavirus pandemic has shifted over several months from China, to Europe and then to the USA.

There’s always been concern about what could happen when the virus gets to less developed countries and the numbers are shooting up in places now like Latin America.

Australia’s death toll stands at 100 and the number of cases here is relatively low with the big issue for the moment just how soon the internal borders here will open.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance program, designed to reduce rent by 75 per cent for small businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Federal and provincial governments will cover 50 per cent, while landlords absorb 25 per cent.

Australia continues to report very low new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection. Several states and territories have even reported no new coronavirus cases in recent days.

New South Wales has today reported four new cases, all in people who have returned from overseas.

British Columbia’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix are expected to provide an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and to discuss the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Tuesday.

Henry said Monday that two more people had died of COVID-19 and there were 16 more people diagnosed with the disease caused by the novel coronavirus from midday Saturday to midday Monday. This brings B.C.’s total to 143 deaths.

There were no new community or care home outbreaks in the province. In total, there are 528 people in long-term or acute care homes who have been diagnosed with the virus. read more

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil and the province’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang are expected to provide an update on the ongoing government response to the spread of the coronavirus.

The province confirmed three new cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 1,043. To date, Nova Scotia has had 55 deaths.

As of Monday, there were two licensed long-term care homes and unlicensed seniors’ facilities in Nova Scotia with active cases of COVID-19. read more

A rapid response team is continuing to test residents and staff at a central Queensland aged care facility after a nurse tested positive for coronavirus.
