Saskatchewan Health Authority CEO Scott Livingstone and other officials are expected to speak on Wednesday regarding ongoing COVID-19 measures and are expected to release details on easing visitor restrictions at health care facilities, including long-term care homes.

Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe said Tuesday that the government would begin lifting travel restrictions related to the novel coronavirus pandemic in the northwest as of June 8, and that La Loche would move into Phases 1 and 2 of the province’s reopening plan. read more

Manitoba’s chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin and Shared Health’s chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa shared an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

During the briefing, it was announced that there are no new cases of the novel coronavirus to report.

Roussin said the province’s count of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases remains at 295. The doctor gave more information on two cases reported late last week, which health officials have previously said were related to travel. read more

After much confusion about which businesses could move to the second phase of New York State’s reopening plan, some people arrived at Destiny USA Friday, May 29, 2020, ready to shop and were disappointed when turned away. Others who were there doing curbside pick-up said they’ll continue using that option, regardless. As it turns out, shopping malls will not be included in phase 2.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and director of Public Health England Yvonne Doyle provided an update on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Monday.

During the briefing, Johnson unveiled the nation’s retail reopening plan as restrictions begin to loosen amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting June 1, outdoor markets will be allowed to operate, subject to all premises being made “COVID secure” as the transmission of the coronavirus is lower outdoors, Johnson said. The prime minister also announced that starting June 15, the British government will allow more non-essential retail to reopen. read more

Ontario Premier Doug Ford was joined by Deputy Premier and Health Minister Christine Elliott and Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton, for a briefing on Friday regarding the province’s ongoing COVID-19 measures.

Ford announced an Ontario Tools Grant Program to help skilled trade workers with training and financial support for 11,600 apprentices. The premier also announced that the province would be forgiving over $10 million in loans in their Loans for Tools Program.

The premier also expressed his confidence in Ontarians to follow the rules should he have to scale back reopening the economy after increases in COVID-19 numbers this past week. read more

Montreal Mayor Valérie Plante and regional public health director Mylène Drouin provide an update on Thursday on the city’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The mayor announced new measures that will be put in place to support Montreal merchants as they reopen businesses on Monday, May 25th.

The date for reopening was pushed back to May 25 in the Greater Montreal area after the government deemed the required criteria to safely reopen had not been met.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that as parts of the state have started reopening, “you’re going to see an increase in the numbers, but you don’t want to see a spike.” Watch his remarks.

The Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has said the government’s approach to re-opening schools in England will be cautious and based on scientific advice. But he warned that the longer schools are closed, the more children will miss out.

The teaching unions have raised concerns over plans for some primary pupils to return to schools in England from the first of June. They say there is still too little testing and a danger that schools will help spread coronavirus infections.

In Edmonton, Jason Kenney, the premier of Alberta, announces that on May 14, 2020, his province will proceed with the first stage of its plan to ease public-health restrictions that are in place due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. In Calgary and Brooks, where cases of COVID-19 are more prevalent, the easing of restrictions will take place over a longer timeframe. On Wednesday British Columbia Premier John Horgan along with provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix announced how the province will begin to reopen the economy starting in mid-May.

Among those businesses slated to reopen in mid-May are certain health services, retail outlets, restaurants, salons and museums.

Hotels, resorts and parks could begin reopening in June while some entertainment venues would be slated for reopening in July. However, large concerts would not be included in this. read more
