Malaysia reported 69 more Covid-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 6,071.

Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also announced one new death.

The death toll rose to 103.

The UK now has Europe’s second highest coronavirus death toll after Italy, with official figures now including people who have died in care homes as well as in hospitals.

But there was also some welcome news for the Government as the Prime Minister and his partner announced the birth of their first child.

A new Associated Press analysis shows how African Americans are dying from COVID-19 at alarming rates around the country. MSNBC’s Ari Melber reports on the glaring disparities across the country and the inequalities that cause them. The number of deaths among Covid-19 patients in UK hospitals has risen past 22,000.

A further 445 deaths were reported by NHS England, taking the total to 19,740.

A total of 73 new deaths in Wales brought the total there to 886. The toll in Scotland rose to 1,415 after 83 new deaths were announced.

The 601 new deaths brings the total across those three NHS bodies to 22,041.

The Environment Secretary George Eustice announced Coronavirus deaths in the UK have jumped to more than 20,700 after 413 people lost their lives to the disease – the lowest daily rise this month.

But Mr Eustice added that Brits have stopped panic buying in supermarkets.

He explained that while “at the beginning of the outbreak of this virus we saw significant problems in panic buying”, food availability is now “back to normal levels”.

Some businesses in Georgia that were forced to close due to the deadly coronavirus outbreak are now allowed to reopen, despite the coronavirus death toll in the U.S. exceeding 50,000. Figures showing the latest numbers of confirmed cases and deaths in the rapidly spreading coronavirus pandemic that has now infected more than 2.5 million people and taken at least 177,000 lives worldwide.

U.S. President Donald Trump and members of the U.S. coronavirus task force provided an update Monday on the administration’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Trump said some areas hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic appear “to have turned the corner” with death rates down “very, very substantially.” He predicted the country would have a “economic resurgence” as states prepared to reopen.

Vice President Mike Pence touted the country’s capacity for testing for COVID-19 saying there is “enough testing capacity today for every state in America to go to phase one.” read more

Coronavirus latest -The UK coronavirus death toll today rose to 16,509 after 449 more fatalities were recorded in the lowest increase for a fortnight.

The last time the daily death toll was that low was two weeks ago on April 6 when 439 fatalities were reported.

More than 140,000 firms have applied for the government’s COVID-19 furlough scheme on the first day – and it will pay the wages of one million people in days.

The Chancellor said that since the scheme opened up at 8am this morning, it had been inundated with requests for state grants. read more

COVID-19 cases in India climb to the 16,000 mark with Maharashtra having the highest number of cases followed by the national capital Delhi. However, Gujarat has replaced Madhya Pradesh and is now in the list of top three worst-hit states with 1,604 active COVID-19 cases.
