Nova Scotia has recorded its third death related to COVID-19. A man in his 80s in Halifax Regional Municipality died of complications from COVID-19.
 
As of today, April 13, Nova Scotia has 474 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Twenty-nine new cases were identified Sunday, April 12. The QEII Health Sciences Centre’s microbiology lab completed 947 Nova Scotia tests on Sunday, April 12 and is operating 24-hours.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo provided an update Monday regarding the continued efforts his state is making to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Cuomo said that although the number of daily deaths caused by the virus in the state is decreasing, it is flattening at a “horrific level.” He added that having over 650 deaths occur during the Easter holiday was “especially tragic,” as the death toll surpassed 10,000 in New York State on Monday.

Cuomo also stated that they will “listen to the experts and follow the data” before choosing to reopen the state amid the pandemic, and outlined a potential objective for reopening, which included re-calibrating essential workers and applying more testing. read more

Canadian health and government officials are expected to provide an update on the latest numbers of COVID-19 cases in the country and the federal government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

Politicians returned to Ottawa over the weekend to debate the Liberal government’s emergency COVID-19 legislation which would allow companies to access a 75 percent wage subsidy for each employee.

Finance Minister Bill Morneau said on Saturday that the time frame for the payout of the wage subsidy for businesses has been moved up with the hope of occurring within two to five weeks, but are hoping to have the payout be closer to the shorter end of the time. read more
