President Trump unveiled a three-phase plan to reopen the U.S. economy Thursday and "begin the next front in our war" that would let states and employees abandon most social distancing rules within four weeks.
Under Trump's "Opening Up America Again" plan, areas with a "downward trajectory" in cases could begin phase one "literally tomorrow" and move to the next after 14 more days of declining cases. It recommends employers implement temperature screenings and virus testing at workplaces.
Phase One: Strict social distancing for all people in public. Groups of 10+ and nonessential travel should be avoided. Restaurants, movie theaters and sports venues without a live audience could reopen.
Phase Two: Maximize social distancing where possible and limit gatherings to 50 people unless precautions are taken. Travel could resume and schools, daycares and bars could reopen.
Phase Three: A "new normal" for most Americans, with a focus on identifying and isolating new cases.
