Sky News host Chris Kenny says US President Donald Trump’s latest COVID-19 update is bizarre, very interesting and one which is certainly “worth a look”.

President Trump has suggested coronavirus patients be injected with disinfectant as a way to fight the virus.

Speaking from the White House podium, Mr Trump said “I see that disinfectant knocks it out in a minute, one minute”.

“Is there a way that we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning? As you see it gets in the lungs and does a tremendous number,” he said. read more

Dr. Rick Bright, who led the federal agency charged with helping find a vaccine for COVID-19, was removed from his post this week. Bright says he was ousted because he questioned the use of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug pushed by President Donald Trump, as a coronavirus treatment. Former Obama White House official Andy Slavitt says Bright’s reassignment is “like the Patriots pulling Tom Brady in the 4th quarter, with the team down by six, facing elimination… This is a guy you want on the field right now.” Aired on 4/22/2020.

A growing share of Americans say they don’t trust Pres. Trump’s claims regarding the coronavirus, and Trump doubled down on politicizing the crisis by claiming, without evidence, that the effort to improve U.S. capacity on ventilators and testing was actually an effort to “get him”. Former New York Times executive editor Howell Raines says Trump’s “doubletalk” and self-promotion at the coronavirus briefings are both counterproductive and backfiring, in this interview with MSNBC’s Ari Melber. (This interview is from MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber,” a news show covering politics, law and culture airing nightly at 6pm ET on MSNBC. http://www.thebeatwithari.com). Aired on 04/20/2020.

President Trump unveiled a three-phase plan to reopen the U.S. economy Thursday and “begin the next front in our war” that would let states and employees abandon most social distancing rules within four weeks.

Under Trump’s “Opening Up America Again” plan, areas with a “downward trajectory” in cases could begin phase one “literally tomorrow” and move to the next after 14 more days of declining cases. It recommends employers implement temperature screenings and virus testing at workplaces. read more

After a New York Times report that President Trump repeatedly ignored warnings about the severity of the coronavirus outbreak, Trump aired a video that portrayed him as doing all the right things. “I think this is one of the most astonishing acts of disinformation we’ve seen from a White House since the Vietnam era,” said Howell Raines, the Times’ former executive editor. Ontario Premier Doug Ford renewed his call for medical supplies on Saturday, saying that while officials at Health Canada are doing “everything they can” it may be time to “rattle some cages.”

Ford responded to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s earlier comments that Canada is set to receive “millions” of medical masks from China, suggesting that Ontario should receive 40 per cent of the shipment because the province makes up 40 per cent of Canada’s population.

The premier also took aim at U.S. President Donald Trump for his order asking medical supply company 3M to halt exports of N95 masks to Canada, calling it “unacceptable.” read more
