It’s time to take Minnesota seriously.

The Gophers entered Saturday’s game ranked No. 17 in the College Football Playoff Rankings despite being off to their first 8-0 start since 1941. Minnesota’s start was written off as the Gophers had yet to beat a ranked team this season and had faced a string of Big Ten teams forced to use backup quarterbacks. A date with No. 4 Penn State would set the record straight, and Minnesota straightened it out quite well in a 31-26 defeat at home in Minneapolis. read more

The Toronto Raptors caught fire from the three-point line, with the short-handed Warriors struggling on the defensive end without Klay Thompson.  The short-handed Golden State Warriors didn’t have enough firepower to hang with the Toronto Raptors in Game 3, falling 123-109 at Oracle Arena.  Following a poor Game 2 outing, the Raptors got it going in the Bay, knocking down 17-of-38 from the thee-point line, with Danny Green, Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet combining to shoot 14-of-25 themselves.  Despite a playoff career-high 47 points from Steph Curry, the Warriors just didn’t have any answers on the defensive end, with the Raptors’ 123 points the most they’ve have allowed on their home court in the NBA Finals in the Steve Kerr era. While Toronto knocked down plenty of tough shots, they were able to generate a ton of open looks on the perimeter, relishing in the absence of Klay Thompson, who missed Game 3 with a hamstring injury.  “Klay’s an all-league defender in my opinion, top 10 defender in the league and one of the purest scorers in the league,” Warriors centre Andrew Bogut said post-game. “So I think you take him away from any team you’re going to struggle. “We miss Klay a lot, especially defensively. People will look at the scoring he can give us but tonight defensively we really missed him. “I think he’s one of the best defenders in the league, especially out on the perimeter and now all of a sudden you’ve got Draymond [Green] guarding Kawhi [Leonard] more than he normally would, Andre [Iguodala] as well and then you put a lot of pressure on Quinn [Cook] and other guys to come off the bench and play just as well. Hopefully we’ll get him back and win Game 4.”   Curry did his best to keep the Warriors afloat, scoring 17 of his 47 points in the first quarter. He finished the game shooting 14-of-31 from the field and 6-of-14 from the three-point line, but the Warriors only had two other players score in double figures as they fell short on their home floor.  Despite his impressive night scoring the ball, Curry implored his team to re-discover their rhythm on defence as they look to level the series in Game 4.  “We can’t fall into the trap of thinking offence alone is going to win us another championship or letting that end of the floor affect our defence,” Curry said post game. ‘That’ll be the biggest adjustment for us in Game 4.” read more

The Golden State Warriors live to fight another day after grinding out a 106-105 win on the road to force a Game 6 back at Oracle Arena.  The Golden State Warriors live to fight another day after grinding out a 106-105 win on the road to force a Game 6 back at Oracle Arena. The Splash Brothers combined for 57 points on 12-of-27 from beyond the arc, both hitting clutch threes down the stretch to seal the win. Here are the player ratings from an enthralling Game 5 contest…Steph Curry – 9 Curry turned it on in Game 5, pouring in 31 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, knocking down a clutch three to tie the game up after being down six.Kawhi Leonard – 9 Leonard nearly carried the Raptors home, going into takeover mode down the stretch, scoring 10 straight points to give the Raptors the lead late in the fourth. He finished with 26 points, 12 rebounds and six assists after a slow start to the game.Klay Thompson – 9 Thompson knocked down seven threes for his 26 points, saving his best for last with the clutch triple with under a minute remaining to give the Warriors a three-point lead. As usual, he got it done on both ends, coming up with some big defensive posessions on Kawhi Leonard in the fourth quarter.Serge Ibaka – 8 Ibaka continues to provide a spark off the bench for the Raptors, giving them quality minutes in Game 5. Taking advantage of their smaller lineups, Ibaka made his presence felt in the paint, finishing with 15 points and six rebounds.Kyle Lowry – 7 Lowry did a great job dictating the tempo of the Raptors’ offence and finding his teammates for open looks. He came alive in the fourth, scoring seven of his 18 points in the period. Marc Gasol – 7 Gasol had the hot hand early, scoring 10 points in the first quarter. His confidence shooting the ball spread to his teammates as he knocked down shot after shot, recording 17 points and eight rebounds in the win.DeMarcus Cousins – 6 In 19 minutes of action, Cousins was productive inside for the Warriors. Immediately following Durant’s exit, Boogie came up with a huge stretch of play, scoring seven points in the space of three minutes to steady the ship for Golden State. While his presence in the paint gave the Warriors some much-needed size and rebounding, he had a tough time on the defensive end, with the Raptors attacking him in the pick-and-roll.Draymond Green – 6 Green recorded 10 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in Game 5 and while he struggled to break down the Raptors defence at times, his passing and playmaking were vital to the Dubs’ win. He came up huge on the final posession, getting a fingertip to Kyle Lowry’s potential series-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.  The views on this page do not necessarily reflect the views of the NBA or its clubs read more
