Britain will stay in COVID-19 lockdown for another three weeks until five key tests are met to avoid a devastating second coronavirus peak, Dominic Raab said tonight.

The First Secretary of State told the nation that their efforts to stay home and stop the spread of coronavirus had been working , but more time is needed to get a full grip on the crisis.

He declared this evening: “The Government has decided the current measures must remain in place for at least the next three weeks.”

And he laid out five tests that Britain must meet before the rules can be changed.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo delivered some good news Thursday from Albany as recent data suggests the COVID-19 curve is beginning to flatten in New York State.

He said the state had its lowest net hospitalization increase of 200 on Wednesday, and the lowest change in ICU admissions.

Cuomo said the reason behind that is that New Yorkers are complying with the social distancing measures.

However, Cuomo also discussed different COVID-19 modeling projections which show a range between 55,000 up to 110,000 individuals needing hospitalization. read more

Alarming number of coronavirus cases here in South Korea.
The country reports over 15-hundred confirmed cases as of today… with a total of 13 deaths from the virus.
For the latest on COVID-19 in South Korea… we connect to our Choi Jeong-yoon on the line.
Jeong-yoon, hundreds more people were confirmed to have the virus.
Yes, Jiyoon, South Korea confirmed 3-hundred 34 new cases on Thursday.
This brings the total number in the country to one-thousand-five-hundred-95.
Since the country’s first infection on January 20th, this is the highest number of infections in a single day.
Most of the cases were in Daegu and the southeastern part of the country.
307 of the new cases are in Daegu and four each from the Gyeongsangbuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do provinces.
South Korea’s central region also saw new cases.
Six more in Seoul, three in Daejeon and four in Gyeonggi-do province.
South Korea also reported its 13th death on Thursday.
The 73-year old man from Daegu was one of the those related to the Shincheonji religious group.
He was tested for the virus last Sunday and the results came back positive on Tuesday.
He seemed to have no special symptoms other than fever and a cough… but started to have difficulty breathing on Thursday morning and died after CPR.
Due to the rapid spread of the virus, places and venues have been closed where close contact with other people is impossible to avoid. How are things going in that regard?
Seoul city has banned all assemblies scheduled to happen in the center of the city.
It has expanded the area where assemblies are banned to now include Jong-ro, so protestors won’t be able to gather in most parts of central Seoul.
Roads near Seoul Plaza had already been restricted.
The government said those who hold assemblies in the area could be fined up to 2-thousand-5-hundred U.S. dollars.
Amid the spread of the virus, all 16 dioceses of the Korean Catholic Church have halted all Masses.
Such measures are a first in 236 years of the Catholic Church in Korea.
The nation‘s railway operator Korail has also temporarily stopped lines that are mostly used by group tourists.
The lines include the O-train, which circles through central regions and the S-train, that runs along the coast of southern parts.
The number of national express buses to Daegu have also been cut as passenger numbers have plunged due to the outbreak there. read more

England’s Chief Medical Officer has warned that we are on the verge of moving from trying to contain the virus by tracking all known cases, to the ‘delay’ phase of the official response.

코로나19 확진자 600명 넘어…사망자 하루새 2명→6명

Our starting point this Monday morning.
South Korea’s rapidly expanding COVID-19 outbreak has claimed more lives and the number of new cases is jumping by the hundreds each day.
For more details, we have our Kim Ji-yeon on the line for us.
Jiyeon, the number of COVID-19 related deaths in South Korea tripled on Sunday…..
Yeah, the total number of deaths due to the virus rose from two to six people in a single day.
The third victim was a 41-year-old male who was found dead Friday in his residence in Gyeongju city… and was confirmed to have the coronavirus during an examination of his body.
The fourth and sixth victims were patients at Daenam Hospital in the southeastern city of Cheongdo , where the country’s first coronavirus fatality took place… and it’s where at least 112 people have been infected.
With this, the number of coronavirus-related deaths that were hospitalized patients from the Daenam hospital has risen to four.
The fifth victim was a 57-year-old female… and is known to be a member of the Daegu -based religious group known as ‘Shincheonji’ .
The number of newly confirmed patients increased by 169 in a single day on Sunday from the previous day… raising the total cases so far to 602.
Among those is a 16-month old girl in Gimpo city … the youngest among the confirmed so far.
She’s believed to have been infected by her parents, who were confirmed with the virus.
The Korea Centers for Disease Control’s central disaster headquarters says more than eight-thousand diagnostic tests are underway.
It announced it’ll delay the start of the new school year for a week from March 2nd to March 9th… as a preventative measure.
This applies to all kindergarten, elementary, middle, high schools as well as special needs schools nationwide.
The number of South Korean soldiers that have contracted the virus is also rising. How’s the military handling this?
Preventing the virus’ spread is particularly important for the South Korean military since it’s directly linked to national security.
Four more soldiers were confirmed over the weekend… raising the cases among the South Korean military to seven.
They include a Marine Corps captain in Pohang , an Army sergeant based in Sokcho , an Army corporal in Pocheon … and one civilian worker in the military who is based in Daegu.
With this, Seoul’s defense ministry has identified some seven-thousand-700 military personnel that have traveled to or have been in close contact with families members from the virus-hit areas of Daegu and the adjacent county of Cheongdo … and Yeongcheon city.
These soldiers have been quarantined at separate locations in their bases… until they’re confirmed clear of the virus.
Also, as part of its preventative measures, the Military Manpower Administration said it’ll temporarily suspend medical checkups required for South Korean men aged 19 or older to see if they’re fit for compulsory military service.
The checkup will be put off for two weeks until March 6th.
An estimated 16-thousand-700 men will be affected by the move.
In an email sent on Saturday, U.S. Forces Korea stated there were no confirmed cases among its forces… but given the circumstances, some sources have told me there are concerns South Korea and the U.S. might not be able to go ahead with their joint computer-simulation based exercises as planned next month.
It’s a topic that’ll almost certainly feature heavily when the defense chiefs of the two allies meet in Washington on Monday, local time.
Back to you. read more

South Korean officials are racing to contain the spread, and said most cases were linked to a single church and hospital nearby.

Trapped on a cruise ship for more than two weeks – now another fortnight of quarantine in the UK. 32 British and European citizens have arrived at Arrowe Park on the Wirral – where they’ll live in isolation. (Subscribe: https://bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)

It’s the same special facility which has housed evacuees from the Chinese city of Wuhan, where the outbreak first began.

But world health officials are growing alarmed by the new cases in South Korea, Italy and Iran.

We speak to Dr Margaret Harris who is on the World Health Organisation’s coronavirus team, and China state TV correspondent Zhou Jiaxin. read more

But wait, James’ palette was revealed on November 2nd of last year, why wouldn’t they release this mini palette for the anniversary at the same time? Maybe it’s because Jeffree Star and Shane Dawson stepped in. It seems the two edged out the competition, pushing James’ launch to mid October. In last Friday’s episode of “The Beautiful World of Jeffree Star”, the title was “The 20 million dollar deal” and that’s what they did… With Morphe. read more
