President Trump called protesters demanding an end to the lockdown “responsible people” – hours after encouraging demonstrations in Michigan, Minnesota and Virginia.

Trump had earlier called for the “liberation” of the Democrat-run states in a series of incendiary tweets. The president admitted Thursday it was up to governors to reopen their states amid the COVID-19 pandemic, claiming 29 were close to ending their lockdowns.

Asked about the protesters Friday, Trump said: “These are people expressing their views. They seem to be very responsible people […] they’ve been treated a little bit rough.” read more

DONALD Trump said the latest coronavirus data suggests the US “passed the peak” as he finalises guidelines to reopen the economy. He also says American’s miss sports as he plans to reopen sporting events.

During his White House press briefing today, the president said America’s “aggressive” COVID-19 strategy appeared to be working and that he would be announcing revised measures on Thursday.

The White House plans to release guidelines Thursday to inform states on how to relax coronavirus restrictions and reopen businesses.

President Trump announced the plans during a news conference Wednesday, citing data indicating that the United States has passed the peak of COVID-19 cases nationwide.

The decision on what individual states do, however, will be with the governors across the country.

“The battle continues but the data suggests that nationwide we have passed the peak on new cases,” Trump said at a news conference in the White House Rose Garden. read more

President Donald Trump announced that his administration will halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) pending a review of the global body over its handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

Trump said at a White House briefing that the United States would suspend funding to the organization while officials conduct a review “to assess the World Health Organization’s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus.”

The president criticized the WHO for opposing large-scale travel restrictions and accused it of failing to quickly vet and share accurate information on COVID-19. read more

President Donald Trump announced tonight that the federal government is sending several hundred additional ventilators to states hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.

Trump during a White House briefing said that over the last 24 hours, the federal government has delivered an additional 500 ventilators to New Jersey, which is among the hardest-hit states. He said it also has sent 200 ventilators to Louisiana and 300 to Michigan. Another 600 have gone to Illinois, he said, while Massachusetts will be getting 100. read more

President Donald Trump today doubled down on his administration’s estimation that the U.S.’s death toll from the coronavirus outbreak likely will be high.

“There will be a lot of death, unfortunately, but a lot less death if this was not done,” Trump said at his daily COVID-19 press conference, referencing the steps the federal government has taken to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus.

Earlier in the week, the White House’s coronavirus task force signaled a grim estimation that anywhere from 100,000 to 240,000 people in the U.S. could die from the disease before the outbreak is over. read more
