A student from Keilor Downs Secondary College in Melbourne’s north-west has tested positive to coronavirus.

The school has now been closed for cleaning.

A teacher at the school tested positive earlier in the week.

Saskatchewan reported two new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, raising the provincial total to 639.

The province also reported nine more recoveries, bringing the number of recoveries to 568.

Health officials said one new case is in the far north while the other is in Saskatoon, where a new community outbreak was declared on Wednesday.
They said the outbreak is linked to two large family gatherings earlier in May when upwards of 60 people gathered.

Public health orders currently limit the size of public and private gatherings to no more than 10 people. read more

Boris Johnson has confirmed that from Monday in England, groups of up to six people will be able to meet outside with others from different households as long as they “observe social distancing rules”.

He added: “We will now allow people to meet in gardens and other private spaces.  These changes mean friends and family can start to meet their loved ones, perhaps, seeing both parents or grandparents at once.”

Mr Johnson said that for many people, this will be a “long awaited, and joyful moment”.  read more

New Brunswick Premier Blaine Higgs and the province’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell are expected to provide an update on the province’s case of COVID-19 and will discuss the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

The premier confirmed one new case of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 123.

He said the three recent confirmed cases in Zone 5 are still active and are contacts of one case of a health-care worker who travelled to Quebec and did not self-isolate upon return to New Brunswick. read more

White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany is expected to hold a briefing on Thursday to provide the latest update on the U.S. government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

McEnany said on Tuesday that Trump was “displeased” with actions being taken by China regarding national security laws proposed for Hong Kong, and said the president doesn’t see how Hong Kong could “remain a financial hub if China takes over.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to make an announcement Thursday and will discuss the province’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province.

Ontario reported 292 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, with the total confirmed cases at 26,483. read more

Government officials briefed on the developments on Covid-19 vaccines. Chairman Empowered Group VK Paul said the fight against Covid-19 will be won through the vaccine. Principal Scientific Advisor KV Raghavan spoke on the vaccines, drugs, and tests in India. Raghavan informed that there are about 30 groups in India working for the Covid-19 vaccine. Ontario’s chief medical officer of health Dr. David Williams, along with the associate chief medical officer Dr. Barbara Yaffe, provided a briefing on Wednesday discussing the latest COVID-19 numbers and the ongoing efforts to combat the pandemic.

Ontario is reporting 292 new cases of COVID-19, with the total confirmed cases now at 26,483.
The province is also reporting 32 new deaths, bringing the total number who have died from COVID-19 to 2,155.

Meanwhile, 20,372 people have recovered from COVID-19, which is almost 77 per cent of cases read more

B.C. Premier John Horgan along with Minister of Health Adrian Dix, provided an update on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday.

Horgan announced that the B.C. is extending their provincial state of emergency.

The province said there were nine new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday and one new death.

Horgan also announced that provincial legislature would resume on June 22.

And the premier also stated that the province won’t ask the federal government to bend the rules of the 14 day quarantine period. Vancouver was shortlisted as a potential hub city for an NHL return, but the federal rule could be a potential stumbling block. read more
