Coronavirus outbreak: Ontario extends state of emergency declaration over COVID-19 | FULL

Ontario Premier Doug Ford announced Tuesday his government would deploy extra resources to long-term care homes battling serious COVID-19 outbreaks, as provincial legislators met to extend a state of emergency declaration for another 28 days.

Ford said he wanted “specialized teams” deployed to these facilities and added that his administration would issue an emergency order declaring that employees of long-term care homes will not be able to work in multiple facilities.

Ford also said Tuesday that schools would not reopen on May 4th, marking the second time the Ontario government has pushed back the date for schools reopening.

Ford said Education Minister Stephen Lecce would be providing more details in the coming days.

Ontario reported 483 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the provincial total to 7,953.
