Coronavirus outbreak: Nova Scotia reports largest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases yet | FULL

Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil and the province’s chief medical officer of health, Dr. Robert Strang held a briefing Tuesday afternoon updating the latest COVID-19 numbers and detailing the province’s response to the pandemic.

Strang reported 43 new cases of the virus, marking the biggest one-day spike the province has seen so far, and bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 517.

He said 13 of the 43 new COVID-19 cases that were reported on Tuesday were from Northwood’s care facility in Halifax, where multiple staff and residents have tested positive. Strang said that all residents who have tested positive except for one individual were showing mild symptoms or were asymptomatic.

The province has also increased their testing capacity, as the QEII Health Sciences Centre’s microbiology lab processed over 1,400 tests on Monday. As of April 14, Nova Scotia had over 16,500 negative test results.
