Coronavirus outbreak: Manitoba reports five new COVID-19 cases, total now at 262 | FULL

Manitoba health officials provided an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Thursday.

Manitoba’s chief public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin reported five new cases of the virus, bringing the total number in the province to 262. He added that 174 individuals were listed as recovered and there were 82 active cases.

Lanette Siragusa, spokesperson for Shared Health said a major shipment of personal protective equipment (PPE) came to the province on Wednesday by chartered plane, which included 150,000 disposable isolation gowns due to a partnership between the province and Spirit RX Services, a local medical supply company.

On Wednesday, Roussin stated that “in the coming weeks,” the province will be looking at ways to ease the COVID-19 restrictions that have been put in place during the pandemic, which would include safely reopening some non-essential businesses.

As of April 23, the province had six virus-related deaths.
