Trump to Michelle Obama I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for Barack.

President Donald Trump responded Tuesday morning to former first lady Michelle Obama’s forceful rebuke of his character and leadership — claiming that he would not have been elected to the White House were it not for what he called the failings of her husband’s administration.

“Somebody please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J. Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

“Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for that very late & unenthusiastic endorsement,” he added.

The president’s social media post came hours after the former first lady addressed the opening night of the Democratic National Convention, using her prerecorded keynote speech to cast Trump as a commander in chief dangerously deficient in empathy and experience.
“If you take one thing from my words tonight, it is this,” she said. “If you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can and they will if we don’t make a change in this election. If we have any hope of ending this chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.”

Just as Michelle Obama’s remarks Monday represented her toughest indictment to date of her husband’s successor, Trump’s tweet Tuesday also appeared to be his most direct attack yet on the former first lady.

Trump targeted her again later Tuesday morning during a White House event commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed American women the right to vote.

The president said the former first lady was in “over her head” and ridiculed her for not having “made the speech live, which she didn’t do. She taped it.”

“She gets these fawning reviews. If you gave a real review, it wouldn’t be so fawning,” Trump said. “I thought it was a very divisive speech. Extremely divisive.”

In other tweets Tuesday, Trump blasted former President Barack Obama and former Vice President Joe Biden — who is now the presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee and leading in virtually all public polling.

Trump commented that the federal response “by the ObamaBiden team” to the 2009 swine flu pandemic “was considered a weak and pathetic one,” and repeated his unfounded allegations that the previous administration “got caught SPYING ON MY CAMPAIGN.”

“It’s called Treason, and more,” he wrote. “Thanks for your very kind words Michelle!”

Trump also tore into John Kasich, the former GOP governor of Ohio who criticized him during Monday night’s convention programming and urged disaffected Republicans to support Biden in November.

Kasich, who competed against Trump in the 2016 Republican primary, said in his speech that the path laid out by the president has “led to division, dysfunction, irresponsibility, and growing vitriol between citizens.”

“Continuing that path will have consequences for America’s soul,” Kasich warned.

Trump tweeted Tuesday morning that Kasich “did a bad job in Ohio, ran for President and was easy to beat, and now went to the other side desperate for relevance,” adding that he is “yet another loser!”
