New Delhi, May 31 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi acknowledged the difficulties people faced during lockdown; he mentioned that poor and labourers were among the worst affected due to COVID-19 cases. “There is no section in our country that is unaffected by the difficulties caused by the disease. However, the worst affected are the poor and the labourers. Their pain, their agony, and their ordeal can’t be expressed in words,” said PM Modi. read more

Some of the most disadvantaged parts of the UK are suffering the worst effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The borough of Newham in east London has recorded the worst mortality rate in England and Wales, according to official figures.

Meanwhile the continent of Africa has yet to suffer the numbers of infections and deaths that have been seen in other parts of the world. The latest figures show just under 3,000 deaths across the whole of Africa from coronavirus.

And while many deaths may have gone unreported and numbers could rise, it’s been suggested that much can be learnt from the way African countries prepared for the virus. read more

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan spoke on the Covid-19 situation in India and said that India is prepared for the worst situation. “Recovery rate has climbed up to 29.9%, doubling rate for the last three days has been about 11 days,” the health minister said. Dr Vardhan also spoke on the testing capacity of India and said the country has capacity of about 95,000 tests. “We have tested 15,25,631 tests till now,” he added.

The Bank of England has warned that the UK is heading for an unprecedented recession. It says the economy is on course for the sharpest annual contraction for 300 years, with the coronavirus pandemic dramatically reducing jobs and incomes.

The Governor of the Bank of England said the economy is expected to contract by 14%, twice as big a downturn as the great crash of 2008. Unemployment could double to 9% although the Bank of England is forecasting that the economy will bounce back next year.

Meanwhile The Prime Minister will make a public statement on Sunday setting out the next stages of lockdown and any plans to ease it. But Boris Johnson has said his government will “advance with maximum caution”. read more

Experts say an explosion of coronavirus cases in Tasmania’s north-west should serve as a warning to the rest of the country about the risk of outbreaks as the number of recorded cases plateaus.

Some states and territories are talking about rolling back restrictions and measures in coming weeks, as Australia’s coronavirus curve flattens.

Investigations into the source and spread of the outbreak in Tasmania are continuing, but there are warnings such a cluster could occur anywhere if measures are rolled back too quickly. read more

The President of South Korea has put the country on the highest possible alert, after the number of coronavirus cases jumped to more than 760 and the death toll rose to seven. It’s now the worst outbreak outside China.

The musician and his wife, , recently participated in a lie detector test for Vanity Fair — and the couple got brutally honest.  One of the subjects that came up during the 40-year-old “All of Me” singer’s interrogation was his wife’s cooking abilities, seeing as she has made a name for herself in the culinary world thanks to her best-selling cookbooks.  When the Utah native, 33, asked her husband if he liked her cooking, he answered unequivocally, declaring, “I love your cooking.”  When asked if there were recipes of Teigen’s that Legend would “rather not eat again,” Legend once again had a diplomatic reply at the ready and revealed that there were “honestly” none that he could think of.  Even when Teigen inquired about the “worst thing” she’s ever made, the Grammy winner played it safe and said he was unable to think of anything off the top of his head.  The Bring the Funny judge, on the other hand, had a meal in mind. “Honestly, my risotto was pretty bad,” she admitted, noting that she used “too much saffron” while making the meal. Only then did Legend nod in agreement and confess that the Italian staple “wasn’t great.”  However, when Teigen brought up a cheesecake she once made for pal , the Tony winner said he “loved” that dessert, which seemed to surprise his wife.  In February 2018, the Lip Sync Battle cohost was on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen and discussed the ill-fated cake, which she said was “very bad.” Legend, who was in the audience at the time, clarified that the confection wasn’t terrible, but admitted that it “wasn’t what it was supposed to be.”  Added the “Love Me Now” crooner: “It actually tasted good, but Kanye was like ‘This is kind of flan-ish.’ So the consistency came out in an unintended way, but it was actually still good.”  Flan-esque cheesecake aside, Teigen has proven herself a force to reckoned within the foodie world. On Monday, November 4, she launched her highly anticipated Cravings website, which was so popular that it crashed minutes after its debut due to too much internet traffic. As Teigen tweeted at the time: “Part of me is very excited by the crashing but [we] are getting this fixed now.” read more
