As many countries ease their lockdowns, Brazil has emerged as the new epicentre of the coronavirus crisis.
On Thursday, Brazil saw the death toll rise by more than 1,000 for the third consecutive day, taking it beyond 26,000.

The daily coronavirus death toll in the UK has risen by 118 to reach a total of 36,793, Boris Johnson announced on Sunday.
Weekend death tolls tend to be lower, due to delays in data collection.
As of 5pm on Saturday, nearly 37,800 people have died in hospitals, care homes and the wider community after testing positive for Covid-19 in the UK.

Malaysia reported 31 more Covid-19 cases on Wednesday (May 20), bringing the country’s total number of infections to 7,009.
Sixty more patients have been discharged, which means 5,706 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.

The UK’s daily figure for coronavirus deaths has dropped to 170 – the lowest since the day after lockdown began
The latest developments in the coronavirus pandemic:
– The Johns Hopkins university says the global death toll has topped 300,000. There are more than 4.4 million confirmed cases worldwide.
– South Sudan has registered its first death from the coronavirus.
– Slovenia has called an official end to its pandemic – becoming the first European country to do so.
– After a two-month shutdown, restaurants, cafes and bars are reopening in Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales.
– People in central Bolivia in South America have defied shutdown orders to protest against coronavirus restrictions. The country’s been under lockdown since mid-March and many residents want it relaxed. They’re calling on authorities to provide more water and food. There have been over 3,000 COVID-19 cases reported in Bolivia, and around 140 deaths.
The coronavirus continues to take a toll on the first responders and health care workers who remain on the front lines across the U.S. Among those affected are Filipino-Americans, who in states like California and New York make up at least 20 percent of the nursing workforce. ProPublica reporter Nina Martin joins Hari Sreenivasan to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on Filipino health care workers.
