Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a threat of retaliation against the United Kingdom’s move to seize an Iranian tanker. A top Iranian official said that Tehran should seize a British oil vessel, if London refuses to release an Iranian oil tanker detained in Gibraltar. The ship was intercepted Thursday on the suspicion of carrying Iranian crude oil to Syria, which would be a violation of European Union sanctions.
