Ruptly is live from New York City, as demonstrations in reaction to the killing of over George Floyd’s death are set to continue on Monday, June 8.
George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed during an arrest in Minneapolis on Monday, May 25, after officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes despite Floyd protesting he couldn’t breathe.
The officer was arrested and charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter and is due to appear in court today.

Efforts to find a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine are about to take another major step forward, though declining cases could actually hamper those efforts.
CNBC’s Kayla Tausche reports that the Congressional Budget Office said the economy could take up to 10 years to catch up after the coronavirus pandemic ends.
Premier Doug Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province.
The report said military members observed cockroach infestations, aggressive feeding that caused choking, bleeding infections, and residents crying for help for hours.
When asked if Ford would either fire or ask for the resignation of Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton, the premier refused and defended his minister.
The FDA has warned against using the anti-malaria drug outside of a hospital setting due to risk of serious heart problems and, in some cases, death.

Engineers at Rome’s Fiumicino airport are testing a new ‘smart helmet’ which allows passengers’ temperatures to be scanned while they’re moving.
It’s part of a series of safety measures to protect people from Covid-19 when flights become more frequent.
The new high-tech ‘smart helmet’ visor has thermo-scan sensors which provide information about the temperature of passengers within a seven metre radius.
Security officers can wear the devices to scan people as they enter the airport or wait in line.
For Singapore to lift its COVID-19 “circuit breaker” measures, the number of community cases daily should fall to zero or single digits over a sustained period of time, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong told Parliament on Monday (May 4).
