My free Murray Lawn Tractor riding mower when started, sometimes the starter continues to spin because then energized plunger on the solenoid sticks in the energized position until you hit it with a screwdriver to disengage the plunger. To fix this issue, I just replaced the solenoid with a new one. There is an access cover under the dashboard of the tractor that you can remove and gain full access to the solenoid. The tractor had a 3 post solenoid which I had in stock and simply replaced it. Everything works as it should now. I also spent some time inserting inner tubes and fixing wheels with slow leaks from dry rot and cracks in the tires. I also took 6 broken starters and made 2 working ones. read more

I picked this free mower up along with another one off the street thanks to a tip from my friend Quinn “The Mailman”.

The mower was apart and the previous owner had recoiled the engine cover backwards. I repaired the recoil starter, but turns out the engine had a blown connecting rod.

I was browsing through Craigslist and saw someone giving away 3 lawn tractors. The problem was, there was no address, just a vague map with a town vicinity. The other problem was that they were already on the curb and it’s about 40 mins away. The chances I would scoop up at least 1 of them was not looking likely. About 2 hours later, he posted a cross street which made me go out and try to grab one.

I was lucky enough to get the last one still sitting there around midnight. The next day I started to troubleshoot it and get it started. As you will see, I injured my hand which pretty much put an end to my day. read more

In episode 2 of my L100 fix, I installed a dual circuit stator to replace the 10/16 amp stator that was originally on the engine. I added a starter motor, replaced the magneto, drained the gas tank and blew it out. Added a battery and gave it a first crank. It started up with go go juice and turned over!
