Scotland and Northern Ireland have both reported no new coronavirus deaths as the UK saw its lowest number of fatalities since March.

Scotland’s announcement on Sunday marks the first time it has seen no Covid-19 deaths since lockdown began back in March.

Northern Ireland has previously seen days with no deaths.

Across the UK, a further 77 people have died after contracting coronavirus, bringing the total number of fatalities to 40,542.

However, there are fears that as lockdown is eased, cases across the UK could rise. read more

British Columbia’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Bonnie Henry and the province’s Minister of Health Adrian Dix provided a briefing on Monday to talk about the province’s ongoing efforts to fight COVID-19.

Dr. Henry reported that there are 12 new COVID-19 cases since Saturday and four new deaths, bringing B.C.’s COVID-19 death toll to 161. All four deaths were linked to the Langley Lodge long-term care facility.

Dallas Mayor Erick Johnson discussed his take on the new restrictions after the state reopened.

Quebec Premier François Legault reported the lowest number of new cases of COVID-19 since April 11 on Tuesday, with 570 new infections.

He also reported 51 new deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths in the province to 3,647.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Quebec stands at 44,197 as of Tuesday.

Quebec nurses held a demonstration outside of Legault’s office in Quebec City on Tuesday to draw attention to difficult working conditions during the pandemic.

Legault said during Tuesday’s briefing that he was disappointed by the demonstration and he wants to meet with union representatives. read more

British Columbia’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix provided an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and discussed the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Tuesday.

Health officials reported only seven new cases of COVID-19 in B.C., which is the lowest daily number since the province asked that gatherings of more than 250 people be cancelled in a bid to slow the transmission of the coronavirus.

There are now 2,360 confirmed cases of he disease in the province. Of those, 1,832 cases have fully recovered. The province also announced one new death, at a long-term care facility in the Fraser Valley, bringing B.C.’s COVID-19 death toll to 131. read more

The world’s biggest economy looks to be heading into a severe recession with large parts of the country closed for business.

The US economy shrank at an annual rate of 4.8% in the first quarter of the year as coronavirus lockdown measures took their toll.

It was the first quarterly decline in GDP for six years and the biggest since the financial crisis in 2008, according to official figures.

The US economy suffered its most severe contraction in more than a decade in the first quarter of the year, as the country introduced lockdowns to slow the spread of coronavirus.

The world’s largest economy sank at an annual rate of 4.8%, according to official figures released on Wednesday.

It marked the first contraction since 2014, ending a record expansion.

But the figures just hint at the full crisis, since many of the restrictions were not put in place until March.

President Trump did not hold a daily briefing over the weekend after facing criticism for his comments to inject disinfectant to treat the coronavirus. The Associated Press White House correspondent Zeke Miller joins CBSN’s Elaine Quijano to discuss Dr. Fauci’s recent absence from those briefings and DHHS Secretary Alex Azar’s relationship with the Trump administration.

British Columbia has reported the largest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases since March 28.
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry confirmed 71 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, bringing the total to 1,795. Of those cases, 1,709 people have fully recovered.

Henry also said Wednesday that three more people had died of COVID-19, bringing the province’s death toll to 90.

But while the number of new cases spiked, hospitalizations maintained their downward trend.

B.C. reported 103 COVID-19 patients in hospital and 46 of them in intensive care. read more
