Anything with the word nuclear next to it usually comes with a fair bit of misunderstanding. Hopefully this video demystifies the process of how nuclear fuels are turned into electricity and how we can use them in combination with renewables in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the effects on the climate that come with high levels of them.
Of course, there are many things that have been left out this video as nuclear energy, just as with any other source, has many different factors that need to be taken into account when making decisions. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the biggest risk factors for coronavirus are age, gender, living in a city and being black or from a minority ethnic background.
In the daily coronavirus briefing, he said the government is determined to “get to the bottom of this” and “find ways of closing the gap”.
Referring to COVID-19’s disproportionate impact on BAME people, he said: “People are angry about racial injustice and I get that. Black lives matter.”

What did we learn from today’s UK briefing?
The daily press conference was held by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who was joined by Prof John Newton, who leads the UK’s testing programme.
The risk of becoming exposed to the COVID-19 coronavirus increases in some cases and decreases in others. As more parts of the country start reopening during the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak, Dr. Susan Hassig, an epidemiologist at Tulane University, shares how to think about managing the risk of everyday activities for yourself. She recommends analyzing situations by looking at the distance you will be able to maintain with others, the diversity of households in the area, and the duration of your activity and interactions. All of this can change if you are high risk or interacting with someone who is high risk, as even moderate situations can lead to major consequences.
Professor Teo Yik Ying, dean of the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health at the National University of Singapore, says students do not face a greater risk of getting infected by Covid-19 as schools start to reopen on June 2. He adds that with schools putting more protocols in place to upkeep safe distancing and personal hygiene, the risk of infection is lower now, compared to before the circuit breaker period.
