Chancellor Rishi Sunak set out plans for the jobs retention scheme to begin tapering from August, with employers expected to contribute 20 per cent of their staff’s salaries.

He appeared alongside Stephen Powis, the National Medical Director of NHS England, at the daily Downing Street briefing.

This morning, Environment Secretary George Eustice admitted that hospitality and other shuttered sectors would find this the “greatest challenge”.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak says the UK is receiving shipments regularly from domestic suppliers as well as those from overseas – including a shipment of 140,00 gowns from Myanmar. The Turkish shipment is still delayed, however.

“We are working hard to get the PPE our frontline NHS and social care staff need,” he says.
He is joined by Chief Scientific Advisor, Angela Mclean and Yvonne Doyle Medical Director of health protection for Public Health England.
