When watching the first game of the Finals, I noticed a few key things that led the Raptors to their convincing game 1 victory over the Golden State Warriors. The three main things that guided the Raptors to the win that I noticed was the Warriors’ poor transition defense, the Raptors defense on Steph Curry, and of course, Pascal Siakam.

First off, the Raptors aggressiveness in transition became potent when paired with the Warriors’ lackluster transition defense. Over the course of the game, the Raptors tallied a total of 24 fast break points. And many of these fast break points came off of simple outlet passes that kept the ball moving the whole time it traveled down the court. read more

Andre Iguodala knocked down a massive 3-pointer to give the Warriors a five-point lead with under 10 seconds left in the game to seal the win for the Warriors  The Toronto Raptors nearly pulled off a late fourth quarter comeback, but Andre Iguodala had other plans for his Golden State Warriors. The Raptors trailed by five points with 51 seconds remaining in the game. Fred VanVleet missed a 3-point attempt, but Danny Green was there to grab the offensive board. He got the ball in the hands of Kawhi Leonard and when Leonard missed a runner in the lane, Pascal Siakam came up with a clutch offensive rebound to keep the possession alive. The ball was kicked out to Green, who knocked down a massive 3-pointer to make it a two-point game with 26 seconds on the clock. Toronto was scrambling on the defensive end to try and come up with a steal to give themselves a chance to tie or win the game. As the clock ticked down and the Warriors moved the ball around to avoid being trapped, Stephen Curry nearly turned the ball over. Shaun Livingston corralled Curry’s pass and made a split-second decision to make the extra pass to a wide open Iguodala. Iguodala knocked down the clutch shot to close out the game. MORE: Recap from Warriors Game 2 win to even the series | Player ratings from Game 2 “The whole fourth quarter they were playing some janky defense just trying to send bodies to me everywhere and our whole roster just took advantage of it,” Curry told ESPN’s Doris Burke following the win. “Over the course of the game, that’s kind of disrespectful to leave Andre Iguodala open like that with the game on the line. He’s made big shots like that before and he got it done tonight.” Draymond Green wasn’t surprised at Iguodala’s ability to knock down the big shot either, “I think that as big as Andre’s shot was, we have come to expect on Andre to hit big shots. Since he’s been here I’ve seen him hit several game winners. I’ve seen him put the icing on the cake on several wins.” The media also asked Kawhi his thoughts on the back-breaking shot, to which Leonard had a very literal response. He was asked if the Raptors wanted to see the ball in Iguodala’s hands to attempt the shot that put the game away, to which he responded, “No, we wanted to see it in our hands. We wanted to get the steal.” The steal would have given the Raptors a chance to send the game to OT or take a 2-0 lead, but Iguodala stepped up and buried the biggest shot of the contest to crush Toronto’s Game 2 hopes. Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said his team should have fouled, but he wasn’t upset with the shot that the Warriors got. “I think if they’re going to take a shot and give you a chance there, I’m going to probably live with the one that ended up being taken. “I’m going to probably roll with that. Probably we should have fouled before that, but like I said, he misses that we call timeout, we go down with a chance to win the ball game unbelievably, somehow.” The Raptors will have two days to mu read more

Kawhi Leonard speaks postgame after the Toronto Raptors beat the Golden State Warriors in Game 4 of the 2019 NBA Finals to take a 3-1 series lead. Kawhi says the team needs to remain patient, and their lead doesn’t matter until “you get that fourth win.” When asked what a NBA title would mean for Canada, Kawhi says you’d need to ask a fan on the street.

The Toronto Raptors celebrate going to their first ever NBA Finals

OAKLAND, Calif. — Drake has been outdone.  In a bizarre scene, a Warriors fan pushed Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry on the sidelines after he scrambled for a loose ball and dove out of bounds early in the fourth quarter not far from where Warriors owner Joe Lacob was sitting.  As he was getting up off the floor, it appeared the fan pushed him in the shoulder.  A female who was standing nearby patted the veteran guard on his back, according to the Associated Press.  Lowry was livid afterward, saying the fan should not come back. The fan was ejected.  “As for that fan, there’s no place for that,” Lowry said. “He had no reason to touch me. He had no reason to reach over two seats and then say some vulgar language, there’s no place for people like that in the league. see also Drake instantly trolls Warriors’ Klay Thompson with questionable photo The NBA Finals are quickly becoming the Drake vs. Klay…  “Hopefully he never comes back to an NBA game,’’ Lowry said.  Later on ESPN, Lowry called for the fan’s banning.  The fan could not hold Lowry down as he erupted for a team-high 23 points in the Raptors’ 123-109 Game 3 victory.  The league said it is investigating the incident, according to the website.  Before the Finals, the NBA had warned Drake about not interfering on the court. read more

The Golden State Warriors have defeated the Toronto Raptors, 109-104, to even this best-of-seven series at 1 game apiece. Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 25 points (10-17 FG, 4-6 3pt FG) alongside 5 rebounds and 5 assists, while Stephen Curry added 23 points (6-17 FG) and 4 assists in the victory. Additionally for the Warriors, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, DeMarcus Cousins, and Andre Iguodala became the first quartet of teammates with at least 5 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in an NBA Finals game since Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschere and Dick Barnett did so for the Knicks in Game 1 of the 1970 Finals. Kawhi Leonard led the Raptors with 34 points (8-20 FG, 16-16 FT) and 14 rebounds in the losing effort. Leonard’s 16 made free throws without a miss are a single-game NBA Finals record. Game 3 is set to take place in Oakland on Wednesday, June 5th at 9:00pm ET on ABC. read more
