Ontario Premier Doug Fordheld a press briefing Friday and discussed the province’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Premier Doug Ford has urged Ontarians to “go get tested” after expanding the criteria to include a wide range of people, with or without symptoms.
The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week.
In a news conference at Queen’s Park, Ontario Premier Doug Ford and provincial cabinet ministers Christine Elliott (health) and Todd Smith (social services) provide an update on their government’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak. Ontario reported 326 new cases of novel coronavirus Sunday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 27,859.
Nineteen new deaths were also announced, bringing the total fatalities attributed to the virus in the province to 2,266.
Ford said on Friday that they are looking at the idea of a regional approach to reopenings, in conjunction with the expanded testing plan announced earlier that day. He said that more testing gives a better scope what’s happening around the province and can help guide what locations could be reopened sooner.
