President Donald Trump announced tonight that the federal government is sending several hundred additional ventilators to states hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.
Trump during a White House briefing said that over the last 24 hours, the federal government has delivered an additional 500 ventilators to New Jersey, which is among the hardest-hit states. He said it also has sent 200 ventilators to Louisiana and 300 to Michigan. Another 600 have gone to Illinois, he said, while Massachusetts will be getting 100.
The press briefing comes after President Trump announced new CDC guidelines recommending that the general population wear face coverings when they leave their homes.

President Donald Trump today doubled down on his administration’s estimation that the U.S.’s death toll from the coronavirus outbreak likely will be high.
“There will be a lot of death, unfortunately, but a lot less death if this was not done,” Trump said at his daily COVID-19 press conference, referencing the steps the federal government has taken to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus.
Earlier in the week, the White House’s coronavirus task force signaled a grim estimation that anywhere from 100,000 to 240,000 people in the U.S. could die from the disease before the outbreak is over.

President Trump today railed against “partisan investigations” and “witch hunts” amid the coronavirus pandemic after Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) established a special House committee to examine the federal response to the pandemic.
“I want to remind everyone here in our nation’s capital, especially in Congress, that this is not the time for politics,” Trump said, reading from prepared remarks. “Endless partisan investigations have already done extraordinary damage to our country in recent years.”
The White House projected there could be 100,000 to 240,000 deaths in the U.S. from the coronavirus pandemic even if current social distancing guidelines are maintained.

President Donald Trump said Friday that White House trade adviser Peter Navarro would become the national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government.
Trump made the announcement at an afternoon press conference at the White House, saying he gave Navarro the new authorities when he signed an executive order earlier that day.
“My order establishes that Peter will serve as national Defense Production Act policy coordinator for the federal government,” Trump told reporters.
