Karnataka has again suspended incoming transport from neighbouring states to contain the spiralling coronavirus infection in the state. This time the list has five states instead of earlier four. Premier Doug Ford said Wednesday that the Ontario government will take over five more long-term care homes around the Greater Toronto Area amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The announcement came after a startling report from the Canadian military was released Tuesday outlining multiple issues in homes across the province.

The report said military members observed cockroach infestations, aggressive feeding that caused choking, bleeding infections, and residents crying for help for hours.

When asked if Ford would either fire or ask for the resignation of Minister of Long-Term Care Merrilee Fullerton, the premier refused and defended his minister. read more

Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen has been released from prison over Covid-19 concerns and will serve out the remainder of his sentence in his Manhattan apartment, according to law enforcement sources.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson had a heated Prime Minister’s Questions with Labour’s Sir Keir Starmer, as the opposition leader probed him on coronavirus testing in care homes.

Speaking during Prime Minister’s Questions, Mr Johnson said that the expanded team of call centre workers and tracers would be ready by June 1 and would able to handle 10,000 new Covid-19 cases a day.

he announcement came after Sir Keir Starmer claimed that the decision to abandon the original contact tracing scheme nearly 10 weeks ago had left a “huge hole in our defences”. read more

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) threatening to pull US funding permanently over Covid-19.

The letter outlines a 30-day deadline for the body to commit to “substantive improvements” or risk losing millions and US membership altogether.

Addressed to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, it criticises stages of the body’s response since December.

A top US government virologist turned whistleblower has accused the Trump administration of failing to tell the truth.

Dr Rick Bright said Americans were ‘not as prepared as they could have been’ in tackling coronavirus.

Dr Bright once ran the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, the government agency overseeing vaccine efforts.

The Trump administration abruptly removed him from the position last month.

After The Telegraph revealed that Public Health England has for the first time approved a test for use, Edward Argar said that the Government was working to purchase “as many” as it could for use in the UK.

It is understood that the Department of Health is now in negotiations with the Swiss healthcare company Roche to buy millions of the kits, after the accuracy of the test was given the green light by experts at PHE’s Porton Down facility last week.
