After much confusion about which businesses could move to the second phase of New York State’s reopening plan, some people arrived at Destiny USA Friday, May 29, 2020, ready to shop and were disappointed when turned away. Others who were there doing curbside pick-up said they’ll continue using that option, regardless. As it turns out, shopping malls will not be included in phase 2.

In US news and current events today, Texas has seen thousands of COVID-19 cases since reopening. Alarming footage shows a crowded Houston mall with little regard for physical distancing. The Houston Galleria Mall reopened on May 15. The mall touted new safety measures to local press, including an increased number of hand sanitizers, signs advocating for physical distancing, a takeout-only food court, and more.
Law enforcement officers and health workers in Durban had their hands full yesterday. Health workers had to screen about 300 people in the China Mall building on Pixley KaSeme Street, formally known as West Street. Police and soldiers raided the multi-storey building on Tuesday night following a tip-off that many of its residents were presenting with flu-like symptoms.
The KwaZulu Natal government says it will be stricter in enforcing nationwide lockdown measures. So far two people have died from COVID-19 in the province, both in their 40s.
