DAYS after reportedly being involved in a bitter dressing room row, Marcelo Brozovic and Romelu Lukaku both scored to hand Inter a 2-0 win over rivals AC Milan. The second-half goals continue the Nerazzurri’s 100 per cent start to the league season and put them top of Serie A. A drilled effort from midfielder Brozovic deflected through a crowded penalty area to give Antonio Conte’s side the lead early in the second-half. Although there was a wait for VAR to ensure the offside Lautaro Martinez hadn’t touched the ball as it dribbled in. In the final ten minutes, Lukaku popped up on the end of Nico Barella’s perfect cross to head home Inter’s second in what was technically an away game at Stadio San Siro. The Belgian spoke “Mama, I love you” into the camera after scoring and was also spotted embracing Brozovic, who was said to have taken umbrage with Lukaku’s criticism of Conte’s tactics in the midweek draw with Slavia Prague. Inter relied on a late equaliser to ensure they took a point at home to the Czech side in a display that contrasted against their strong domestic showings. Wins over Lecce, Cagliari and Udinese – conceding just once along the way – served to revitalise the Milan club. As for their neighbours, AC are left in ninth after a second loss in four games. Marco Giampaolo’s side matched their rivals for control of the ball but lacked a penetrative edge despite new signing Rafael Leao starting up top alongside Krzysztof Piatek. Earlier in the day, Juventus returned to winning ways with a 2-1 comeback victory over Hellas Verona – Aaron Ramsey netting on his first start for the defending champions. Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez both scored twice as Inter survived a late Sassuolo fightback to win 4-3. Lukaku grabbed both of his goals in the first half as Inter went into halftime up 3-1. Lautaro Martinez doubled his tally shortly after the break with Inter’s second penalty of the match to leave them in complete control. Inter were in action at the Suning Training Center for a friendly against AC Gozzano. Ahead of the Serie A opener against Lecce at 20:45 CEST on Monday 26th August, the Nerazzurri won 2-0. Lukaku scored in the first half and Politano added a second from the spot after the break.

News24 – Romelu Lukaku scores four goals on Inter Milan debut after leaving Manchester United

Manchester United weren’t able to sign a replacement, but they were still happy for Romelu Lukaku to complete a £74 million move to Inter Milan at the end of the summer transfer window. The Belgium international finalised his switch to Italy on Thursday after weeks of speculation. Inter was his preferred destination but Juventus were also keen on signing the 26-year-old, who had been deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Lukaku, who scored 42 goals in 96 games for the Red Devils, wasn’t the striker that Solskjaer wanted leading the line at United. The Norwegian coach has subsequently left himself with Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as the club’s only centre-forwards. And even then, it could be argued that none of them are out-and-out number nines in the same way Lukaku is. Many football fans believe Solskjaer has left United short in attack by selling Lukaku without signing a replacement. Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic were both linked with moves to Old Trafford towards the end of the transfer window but neither deal materialised. Lukaku wasn’t involved in Inter’s 1-1 penalty shoot-out victory over Valencia on Saturday evening, but he did make his first appearance for his new employers on Sunday. And he made quite the impact. The powerful striker, who will wear the No. 9 shirt this season, scored four goals – yes, four – in an 8-0 victory over Virtus Bergamo. Virtus Bergamo play in Serie D, but take nothing away from Lukaku’s performance on his debut: four goals is an excellent start against any opponent. Matias Vecino and Sebastiano Esposito scored braces to complete the rout, per Football Italia. Lukaku will be hoping to make his competitive debut for the Nerazzurri against Lecce when the 2019/20 Serie A campaign gets underway in two weeks’ time. Interestingly, Lukaku is currently the sixth favourite with the bookmakers to win the 2019/20 Serie A Golden Boot award. Juventus superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is the favourite (unsurprisingly), followed by Krzysztof Piatek, Mauro Icardi, Duvan Zapata and Fabio Quagliarella. Have Man Utd made a mistake selling Lukaku?
