The White House says it will veto the House’s $3 trillion relief plan, otherwise known as the HEROES Act, should it pass the Senate. Meanwhile, President Trump said Friday that he is confident there will be a coronavirus vaccine by the end of 2020. HOUSE DEBATES $3 TRILLION RELIEF BILL: The House of Representatives meets to debate and vote on the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act, or HEROES Act. The bill includes $200 billion for hazard pay for front-line health care workers, $75 billion to expand COVID-19 testing, and allocates funding for state and local governments whose budgets have been walloped by shortfalls in tax revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic. The bill also includes up to $10,000 in student loan forgiveness and a new round of $1,200 stimulus payments. ‘The American people are worth it,’ House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said of the spending to the Associated Press. It is expected to pass in the House, but struggle in the Senate, where Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has called the effort to help millions of struggling Americans a ‘totally unserious effort.’ read more

A drug that may shorten the recovery time of hospitalized coronavirus patients is being hailed as a potential breakthrough in the fight against the pandemic.
