The Golden Globes mark the start of the season, as the first big show of the new year.  However, each year there are also significant surprises — both good and bad — as well as snubs. In TV, the amount of content has continued to grow immensely, making it nearly impossible to honor all the best. When the nominees were announced on Monday, December 9, though, the Hollywood Foreign Press tried to do just that.  Luckily, Us Weekly is here to break down the biggest TV surprises and snubs in this year’s nominations.   Not only was star , who arguably deserves to win, left out, the series overall didn’t receive any recognition.   Well-deserved! The Netflix drama earned four nominations, including best miniseries, best actress in a miniseries (Kailyn Dever and Merritt Wever) and best supporting actress (Toni Collette) in a miniseries.   It’s definitely the year for streamers to shine, but not one nod for ?   She won last year for her part in Killing Eve. This year, somehow, she didn’t even earn a nomination.   While ’s Netflix hit had quite the ending and incredible cast, it was a bit of a shock to see it land on the nominations list multiple times.   Apparently the HFPA missed the boat on arguably the best limited series on TV. The series didn’t earn one nomination, despite the incredible work of the stars (, , ) and director .   Where was the love for Schitt’s Creek, PEN15 and The Good Place?   This deserved its own bullet. Not only was the series snubbed, was also cut from the list.   While it may have been the most talked about series of the year, shockingly only received one nomination; that went to .   It was a pleasant surprise to see earn recognition … but where was ?   How is it possible that Baranski’s work in The Good Fight continues to go unnoticed?   While the show was a shoe-in for a nomination, it was exciting to see both and earn a nomination. However, also deserved some love.  The Golden Globes air on NBC Sunday, January 5, 2020, at 8 p.m. ET. is set to host, for a fifth time. read more

Transcript : I’m Ricky Gervais, thank you. You’ll be pleased to know this is the last time I’m hosting these awards, so I don’t care anymore. I’m joking. I never did. NBC clearly don’t care either — fifth time. I mean, Kevin Heart was fired from the Oscars for some offensive tweets — hello? Lucky for me, the Hollywood Foreign Press can barely speak English and they’ve no idea what Twitter is, so I got offered this gig by fax. Let’s go out with a bang, let’s have a laugh at your expense. Remember, they’re just jokes. We’re all gonna die soon and there’s no sequel, so remember that. But you all look lovely all dolled up. You came here in your limos. I came here in a limo tonight and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman. No, shush. It’s her daughter I feel sorry for. OK? That must be the most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to her. And her dad was in Wild Hogs. Lots of big celebrities here tonight. Legends. Icons. This table alone Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro Baby Yoda. Oh, that’s Joe Pesci, sorry. I love you man. Don’t have me whacked. They all have one thing in common: They’re all terrified of Ronan Farrow (the journalist who broke the Harvey Weinstein sex abuse scandal). He’s coming for ya. Talking of all you perverts, it was a big year for pedophile movies. Surviving R. Kelly, Leaving Neverland, Two Popes. Shut up. Shut up. I don’t care. I don’t care. Many talented people of color were snubbed in major categories. Unfortunately, there’s nothing we can do about that. Hollywood Foreign press are all very racist. Fifth time. So. We were going to do an In-Memoriam this year, but when I saw the list of people who died, it wasn’t diverse enough. No, it was mostly white people and I thought, nah, not on my watch. Maybe next year. Let’s see what happens. No one cares about movies anymore. No one goes to cinema, no one really watches network TV. Everyone is watching Netflix. This show should just be me coming out, going, “Well done Netflix. You win everything. Good night.” But no, we got to drag it out for three hours. You could binge-watch the entire first season of Afterlife instead of watching this show. That’s a show about a man who wants to kill himself cause his wife dies of cancer and it’s still more fun than this. Spoiler alert, season two is on the way so in the end he obviously didn’t kill himself. Just like Jeffrey Epstein. Shut up. I know he’s your friend but I don’t care. You had to make your own way here on your own plane (instead of Epstein’s Lolita Express private plane) didn’t ya? Right. Seriously, most films are awful. Lazy. Remakes, sequels. I’ve heard a rumor there might be a sequel to Sophie’s Choice. I mean, that would just be Meryl just going, “Well, it’s gotta be this one then.” All the best actors have jumped to Netflix, HBO. And the actors who just do Hollywood movies now do fantasy-adventure nonsense. They wear masks and capes and really tight costumes. Their job isn’t acting anymore. It’s going to the gym twice a day and taking steroids, really. Have we got an award for most ripped junky? No point, we’d know who’d win that. Martin Scorsese made the news for his controversial comments about the Marvel franchise. He said they’re not real cinema and they remind him about theme parks. I agree. Although I don’t know what he’s doing hanging around theme parks. He’s not big enough to go on the rides. He’s tiny. The Irishman was amazing. It was amazing. It was great. Long, but amazing. It wasn’t the only epic movie. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, nearly three hours long. Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him. Even Prince Andrew was like, “Come on, Leo, mate. You’re nearly 50-something.” The world got to see James Corden as a fat pussy. He was also in the movie Cats. No one saw that movie. And the reviews, shocking. I saw one that said, “This is the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs.” But Dame Judi Dench defended the film saying it was the film she was born to play because she loves nothing better than plunking herself down on the carpet, lifting her leg and licking her pus*sy. (Coughs) Hairball. She’s old-school. It’s the last time, who cares? Apple roared into the TV game with The Morning Show, a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China. Well, you say you’re woke but the companies you work for in China — unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you? So if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and fuck off, OK? It’s already three hours long. Right, let’s do the first award.” read more

I say awkward things to their faces.”  With this being Gervais’ final outing as the host of the Globes (or so he says for now), the star certainly went out in explosive style.  Here are some of his most memorable (and controversial) jokes and one-liners from the show…  The college admissions scandal  Starting as he meant to go on, Gervais kicked things off with a reference to Felicity Huffman’s trial over the college admission scandal, joking that he travelled to the show in a limo which had “a license plate that was made by Felicity Huffman.”  Leonardo DiCaprio’s romances  Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood’s DiCaprio also bore the brunt of Gervais’ humour, as the Afterlife star drew attention to the age gap between the actor and his 22-year-old girlfriend Camila Morrone.  In reference to the run time of DiCaprio’s latest film, Gervais said: “[It’s] almost three hours long – it’s an epic.   “Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end his date was too old for him.”  Martin Scorsese versus Marvel  Gervais later took aim at DiCaprio’s frequent collaborator Martin Scorsese, referencing his recent comments against Marvel’s superhero blockbusters before poking fun at the legendary director’s height.  “He said they’re not real cinema and they remind him of theme parks,” Gervais said. “I agree. Although I don’t know what he’s doing hanging around theme parks; he’s not big enough to go on the rides.’  Celebrities making political speeches  Gervais accused Hollywood stars who make speeches advocating political or charitable causes, accusing them of hypocrisy – and singled out Apple, who recently launched a streaming service.  “You say you’re woke but the companies you work for – Apple, Amazon, Disney – if Isis started a streaming service, you would call your agent, wouldn’t you?” he said, before claiming that the moral crusade shown on Apple’s new programme The Morning Show “is rich coming from a company that runs swear shops in Asia.”  He finished off by saying that actors are “in no position to lecture the public about anything” as they “know nothing about the real world.”  Baby Yoda  The comedian compared The Irishman star Joe Pesci to Baby Yoda, the tiny green s read more

BRAD PITT NO KUDOS FOR KIDS WAS STRATEGIC …During Globes Speech.
Brad Pitt knows there are some things we may never get over. That’s why Pitt’s Golden Globes acceptance speech after his Best Supporting Actor win for “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” was such a hit.In thanking his costar Leonardo DiCaprio, he slyly threw in “Still, I would have shared the raft.”That “Titanic” reference is one of the most hotly contested bits of movie trivia ever.DiCaprio, of course, portrayed Jack Dawson in the epic 1997 film.
For decades the debate has gone on and on as to whether (spoiler alert) Kate Winslet’s character Rose DeWitt Bukater could have saved Jack’s life in the icy waters by making room for him on the makeshift raft he insisted she climb upon.
The joke was celebrated on Twitter and even resulted in some memes — naturally.
