Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced $8.8 billion of funding towards fight coronanvirus at a summit aiming to raise money for lifesaving vaccines for children in the worldā€™s poorest countries.

Mr Johnson hosted the World Vaccine Summit, where more than 50 countries and organisations made pledges to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, which immunises children in developing countries.

Members of the coronavirus task force are expected to hold a press briefing Monday as retailers and small businesses struggle to stay afloat and lawmakers fail to reach a deal on additional funding for the SBA loan program. The Covid-19 outbreak has spread to dozens of countries globally, with more than 761,900 cases in the United States and at least 40,724 deaths, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.

Speaking at the White House President Donald Trump announced that the United States would halt all funding to the UN’s World Health Organisation.

He accused the WHO of a cover-up saying they were too slow in their initial response to the outbreak of the pandemic. The WHO declared a global health emergency on 30 January, while President Trump continued to downplay coronavirus comparing it to flu.

President Donald Trump announced during a daily briefing alongside the coronavirus task force on Tuesday that the U.S. is going to be halting funding to the World Health Organization.

ā€œToday Iā€™m instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organizationā€™s role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus,ā€ Trump said.

He criticized WHO over their opposition to his travel restrictions as the coronavirus pandemic began. read more

Talks over additional funding for small businesses once again stalled in the Senate on Monday. Republicans are asking for $250 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program, but Democrats want even more funds to give to hospitals and state governments.
