Parents want to know when they can send children back to school. Continued school closures will have a detrimental impact on pupil progress, Gavin Williamson, the Education Secretary, acknowledged earlier in the lockdown.
Boris Johnson delivered an announcement on Sunday May 10 about phase two of the shutdown, indicating that the return to school would be gradual, rather than a wholesale lifting of the lockdown.
The Education Secretary also defended the PM’s key adviser Dominic Cummings’ lockdown travel.
During a Monday briefing with Toronto Public Health, Toronto Mayor John Tory warned that if people are caught defying city by-laws by continuing to use city parks and amenities closed due to COVID-19, they could be fined a minimum of $750. Tory said by-law officers and police will be conducted blitzes at public parks to ensure these rules are followed.
In addition, the city has reported that as of 1 p.m. ET on March 30, there are a total of 591 confirmed COVID-19 cases, up 50 since Sunday, said Dr. Eileen de Villa, medical officer of health for the City of Toronto.
