Federal ministers and health officials are expected to hold a COVID-19 briefing to update Canadians on the latest coronavirus cases in the country and discuss the ongoing government response to the pandemic on Wednesday.

The federal government continues to add to the supply of personal protective equipment and related medical equipment needed to fight COVID-19.

Trudeau pointed out that over half the face shields acquired so far have been made by a Canadian company that expanded its workforce to contribute to the effort. read more

Federal ministers and health officials will hold a COVID-19 briefing to update Canadians on the latest coronavirus cases in the country and will discuss the ongoing government response to the pandemic.

As of Thursday, Canada reported a total of 87,508 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 6,765 deaths.

Federal ministers and public health officials provided an update on the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday morning.

Minister Duclos opened the briefing by paying respects to the victims of last week’s tragic CAF helicopter crash. The 6 crew members will be honoured with a repatriation ceremony on Wednesday at CFB Trenton.

Canada has now reported over 4,000 deaths linked to the novel coronavirus, including 1,274 new cases.

Dr. Theresa Tam said that this is mental health week in Canada and it takes on a special meaning at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. read more

With clear evidence of the pandemic curve flattening in Canada, some provinces have already begun relaxing certain lockdown restrictions, with others, including hardest hit Ontario and Quebec, set to do so on Monday.

All are taking a cautious approach, maintaining physical distancing rules as the steps for reopening for business are phased in over weeks or months to try to guard against a second wave of infections. read more

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced $62.5 million to support seafood and fish processors who may be struggling during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking from Rideau Cottage on Saturday, he told reporters the money will go towards helping fish and seafood companies modify their plants to meet COVID-19 health regulations, support social distancing measures as well as buy personal protective equipment for processors.

“As we fight COVID-19, people who work in fish and seafood processing plants across the country are playing a crucial role when it comes to getting food to our tables,” he said. read more

Dr. Rick Bright, who led the federal agency charged with helping find a vaccine for COVID-19, was removed from his post this week. Bright says he was ousted because he questioned the use of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug pushed by President Donald Trump, as a coronavirus treatment. Former Obama White House official Andy Slavitt says Bright’s reassignment is “like the Patriots pulling Tom Brady in the 4th quarter, with the team down by six, facing elimination… This is a guy you want on the field right now.” Aired on 4/22/2020.

Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister provided an update on Monday in regards to the COVID-19 response across the province. Provincial health officials spoke shortly after the premier with an update on the province’s COVID-19 cases and measures being taken to curb the pandemic.

Manitoba’s chief provincial public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin announced one new case of COVID-19 in the province on Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 204. The total number of COVID-19-related deaths remains at two, he added. read more
