Matt Hancock chairs today’s Downing Street press conference after being warned by the country’s statistics watchdog that the Government’s testing figures for coronavirus are “still far from complete and comprehensible”.

David Norgrove, chairman of the UK Statistics Authority, said the way the Government presented the figures appeared to be aimed at showing “the largest possible number of tests, even at the expense of understanding”.

Elsewhere, Housing Minister Simon Clarke has said that it is going to be “very, very difficult” for people to take summer holidays this year, despite confirming that air bridges are still part of a “live” debate. read more

The federal government continues to add to the supply of personal protective equipment and related medical equipment needed to fight COVID-19.

The prime minister says the race to accumulate what Canada needs requires a balance between shopping all over the world and continuing to bolster manufacturing capabilities at home.

Justin Trudeau pointed out that over half the face shields acquired so far have been made by a Canadian company that expanded its workforce to contribute to the effort.

He says Canada has what’s required to meet the provinces’ demands at the moment but as the slow reopening of the country begins, more will be needed. read more

Manitoba’s chief medical health officer Dr. Brent Roussin and Shared Health’s chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa shared an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

During the briefing, it was announced that there are no new cases of the novel coronavirus to report.

Roussin said the province’s count of lab-confirmed positive and probable positive cases remains at 295. The doctor gave more information on two cases reported late last week, which health officials have previously said were related to travel. read more

Mayor John Tory was joined by Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa and Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg as they provided an update on the city’s COVID-19 cases and the ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

Dr. de Villa reported that the city has 164 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday. She said that 8,630 people have recovered from the virus in the city, which is an increase of 184 people since Sunday.

Ontario reported 404 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, bringing the provincial total to 28,263. read more

British Columbia’s provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and health minister Adrian Dix are expected to provide an update on the latest COVID-19 cases in the province and to discuss the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic on Monday.

Dr. Henry reported 11 new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths Saturday. The province now has a total of 2,573 COVID-19 cases and 2,181 have fully recovered.

Alberta’s chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw gave an update on the most recent numbers of COVID-19 cases in the province Monday and the government’s ongoing response to the pandemic.

The province’s top doctor said that 34 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Alberta in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of active cases in the province to 400. She said 6,501 people have now recovered from the virus.

As of Monday, there were 53 people in hospital with COVID-19, six of whom were in intensive care units. Hinshaw said no new deaths have been reported. read more

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo warned Monday that as parts of the state continue to move ahead with reopening and New York City set to reopen on June 8, “we have to be smart” with protests. “It took us 93 days to get here,” he said.

Government officials hold a daily briefing to update on the coronavirus outbreak in the United Kingdom.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford held a briefing Monday alongside Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Christine Elliot.

Ontario reported 326 new cases of novel coronavirus Sunday morning, bringing the total number of cases in the province to 27,859.

Nineteen new deaths were also announced, bringing the total fatalities attributed to the virus in the province to 2,266.

Ford said on Friday that they are looking at the idea of a regional approach to reopenings, in conjunction with the expanded testing plan announced earlier that day. He said that more testing gives a better scope what’s happening around the province and can help guide what locations could be reopened sooner. read more
