CNBC’s Meg Tirrell interviews White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci about his outlook for the coronavirus outbreak in the United States.
The question of whether to reopen schools in the fall has a “complicated answer” and the decision will depend on the coronavirus’ transmission in certain regions of the U.S., White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci said on Friday.
“It has to be a bit of a — and I don’t mean lengthwise — a bit of a complicated answer, because the United States is a large country,” he said during an interview Friday on CNBC’s “Halftime Report.”
In South Africa, poachers have been taking advantage of Coronavirus lockdown measures and a drop in tourism. The decrease in traffic has made it easier for them to hunt rhinos. Rhino horns are particularly in demand – in some parts of the world, rhino horn is used in medicines. It can sell for $60,000 a kilogram. Now, conservationists are taking an unusual step to protect rhinos: they’re cutting off their horns.

What did we learn from today’s UK briefing?
Today’s government press conference was with Health Secretary Matt Hancock. It was the first time the minister giving the briefing has not been joined by a government scientist.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the federal government is offering $14 billion to the provincial and territorial governments for measures to keep COVID-19 at bay.
Trudeau says Canadians have sacrificed too much to allow a mishandled resumption of economic activity to eliminate the progress against the disease.
He says everyone in Canada needs the same tools but local situations vary and the provincial and territorial governments “have a very clear idea” of what is needed.
Trudeau also said recent reports of police violence against Indigenous people are “disturbing” and the cases need to be “investigated properly.”
Ontario Premier Doug Fordheld a press briefing Friday and discussed the province’s ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Premier Doug Ford has urged Ontarians to “go get tested” after expanding the criteria to include a wide range of people, with or without symptoms.
The province is still looking at when they can begin the next stage of reopening and Ford said they would be opening up short term rentals for cottages and bed and breakfast businesses once it’s approved by the province’s health committee, but he hopes rentals will be allowed to reopen by next week.
As scientists race to find a coronavirus vaccine, some researchers are pinning their hopes on vaccines that already exist: The BCG vaccine. It’s traditionally used against tuberculosis and has been shown to also protect against a range of other diseases. Researchers are now hoping that Covid-19 could be one of them. In this video we ask: To what extent could BCG tuberculosis vaccines be used against the new coronavirus?

Clearer skies are an unexpected outcome of the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. As Covid-19 brings economies to a virtual standstill, shuts down factories and grounds airlines, carbon dioxide emissions are falling. Scientists say the decline in 2020 is now expected to be the largest recorded since World War II.

World leaders and representatives from over 50 countries virtually joined the Global Vaccine Summit hosted by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Thursday to raise funds for GAVI (The Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations), a public-private global health partnership.
The Global Vaccine Summit was able to raise 8.8 billion dollars for routine vaccinations in some of the world’s poorest countries.
Boris Johnson called for donations of at least $7.4 billion for GAVI to immunize further 300 million children in the world’s poorest countries by 2025 against diseases such as polio, diphtheria and measles.
