MARVEL Fans have been bickering back and forth over whether the Thunder GOD gaining a noticeable amount of weight, letting his blond hair grow long and his beard get wild, and settling into a routine of beer, chips, and and tons of video games was a fast attempt at laughs or an accurate depiction of the effects trauma and grief can project on people. With all this chatter, the main person who has remained pretty quiet about “fat Thor” in Endgame is Thor himself, famously fit, groomed and Great Looking actor Chris Hemsworth. Because of Endgame directors creativity Joe and Anthony Russo, we know how Hemsworth reacted to the news that his hammer-swinging hero character would sport a different body type in the latest movie. Speaking in few interviews with Sirius XM about the Russos shared that Hemsworth was totally on board for chubby Thor and was ready to take the character in a new trend. As Joe Russo stated, “Hemsworth is up for anything. He loves to take risks. Anthony said that when they gave Hemsworth a call to discuss where Thor’s personal journey would go in Endgame and how his character arc would wrap up. The initial conversation took place quite a while before Endgame and its predecessor Infinity War, which were shot back-to-back, began filming, meaning the Russos and Hemsworth knew well in advance what Thor would look, feel, and act like in the epic ensemble movie. Mr Russo said, “Before the script was ready, when we called him to pitch the character arc, he just finished Ragnarok. He was so excited and energized by the work he had done with Taika in that movie in terms of coming up with a comedic Thor.” Anthony’s brother Joe was saying, “And we were like, ‘Wait until you hear what we’ve got for you.'” Hemsworth didn’t open up much about what went down with Thor in Endgame or offered explicit details about the hero’s new twist until the movie premiered in theaters in late April and he only offered a tiny tease to USA Today before his pic’s debut. Of course, Hemsworth needed to keep quiet about the specifics at that time. He said that he, quote, “wanted to do something different” pushing Thor to the limits in Endgame. It was mentioned in USA Today, “[The Russos] were on board and we sat for many hours and days and discussed kind of how far we could push it and how we could do new and different.” “Fat Thor” certainly is NEW to any other hero fans have seen so far in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before. It was a bold move on the part of Hemsworth and the Russo brothers and it sounds like the Endgame team wanted to depict Thor in a brand-new light while making a strong point about how people handle feelings of grief and guilt and how there isn’t just one true way to be a superhero. The most prominent takeaway from “fat Thor” in the film is that he never went through a fat-to-fit transformation in order to boost his confidence and improve his self esteem.
