How COVID-19 Testing Is Done In Singapore

Singapore’s #COVID19 multi-ministry task force on Apr 27 announced “crucial need” to ramp up testing capacity for the novel coronavirus, as part of the country’s plans beyond the “circuit breaker” period.

These medical technologists from Tan Tock Seng Hospital take viewers through the steps to detect SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

“The worst is when it’s 4am and … you still have to concentrate very hard because we really cannot afford to make any mistake.”

They have been working in shifts round the clock to test for the coronavirus from patient samples using RT-PCR (Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction). The Fortitude Kit 2.0 that they use is jointly developed with A*STAR and has an accuracy of more than 99%.
